MSNS Show Report - Friday

Day one. Arrived right around 9:00 (doors open at 10:00) and usually I just hang out until they let the “common folk” in the place. Noticed a sign directing people to the area designated for dealer sign-in, early bird badges, etc. Wait a minute. Early bird badges? How have I missed that all these years? Was this something new?

After joining the MSNS for $12 (a pre-requisite for buying an EBB), I was in the show. Dealer setup was last night (Thursday), and it was apparent that most of the table renters had decided to have dinner with the family at home, or were still en route. I would say less than half the tables were populated. Made a quick lap to see what lay in store for the rest of the day.

Not much caught my eye, and in the grand scheme of things, I only found one item that made the EBB worthwhile, but it was nice to be able to get a good look at most cases without waiting behind people.

Not much silver around and the stuff that was there was running on the high side: 10 oz Engelhards at $335-360, ASEs for $36. Even generic 1 ozers were spot +$2 or more. I heard buy prices for 90% at 21.4x all the way down to 20.75x later in the show. Saw several sealed boxes of 25th anniversary sets being passed over tables and heard (unsubstantiated) rumors of dealers paying $1,000 per sealed set. Not as much gold as in the past, and I do not know what buy/sell spreads they were getting.

The guys behind the Silvertowne table were having a blast counting out $100 or so of 90% quarters…by hand. Looked like lots of selling to them, not sure how much folks were buying.

Spent some time at James Sego’s table and finished up our pre-sale deal. Very smooth. Saw khayse and his grumpy sweatshirt but did not get the opportunity to talk with him. I believe there was a Wei sighting, but he was moving quickly on one occasion and tied up at a table on another, so I did not get to meet him.

After a few phone calls and dozens of PMs, I finally got to meet MJ of justacommemman fame. As class an act as you will find. All during our conversation, I had this strange feeling for a Dos Equis. Go figure.

Will probably stop by again tomorrow, so we’ll see if anything else happens.

WR, the pleasure was all mine. You are top shelf.........I REALLY look forward to meeting up again. Good karma.

Silvertowne stopped buying 25th Anniversary sets for all practical purposes. Others were paying $3600 to $3800 for a B of 5 when pressed.

As mentioned very very little gold available.

I really wanted to buy those 20 and 50 oz (BL) Engelhard bars but at $960 and $1800 respectively I just couldn't justify it. MJ

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
