1991 Donruss Bozo?

Came across these on Ebay and after 20 years I don't think I have ever seen these. Anybody know how they were distributed? Value? The two on ebay the seller is looking foraround $80. I would probably pay $15 or so. #DONTJUDGEME image

I would like to apologize for judging you before I read your disclaimer about not judging you. I'm sorry.

  • Interesting. I have also never seen or heard of these. Pretty cool and seemingly rare.

I busted so much 1991 Donruss to pull the Elite cards. I did pull a Henderson and Brett Elite. My father bought me a Barry Bonds Elite so the 91 donruss is a set I like. I also used to watch Bozo the Clown before school on WGN.

I wish I could pick one of those cards up but wouldn't want that kind of money in one without knowing more about the origin of the cards.

I thought the Donruss set was 660 cards and curious why it would be #793(like at the end of a Topps set of 792).

None in vcp and none in the psa pop reports. I even checked all the Donruss subsets. I've never seen or heard of this one. Interesting...

Those look really cool to me. If I was a Donruss collector, I'd spring for the $80 in a second.

Is the "9" on the front for a TV channel? Maybe his home channel? Did they have them made up for a retirement or some other special milestone event?
Just another way to search for a mention of them.

Edit: just looked at the back and saw WGN-TV, which is in Chicago I believe. Try searching for some info that way.

    Found this:

    PSA Graded Cards:

1992 Donruss #9 BOZO THE CLOWN PSA NM 7

    HERE

Maybe someone with POP Report access can do some research? Give PSA a call and see what the specs tell them?

But these are '91's right? Pop reports for '91 show #9 being Roger Clemens Diamond King.

Pop reports for '92 show #9 being Todd Van Poppel

Neither show the set going up 793.

FWIW-I checked a Beckett paper price guide and they are not listed in there.

However, this is in the auction description:

"were printed on a limited run as a WGN-TV promotional piece. "

  • Cool. Never seen these.

I know a few card companies used their baseball templates to make "private" sets back in the 80's. Example the 1989 Fleer Senator cards.

The "9" is simply for Channel 9 as in the channel WGN is locally in Chicagoland. Despite being in the area, I have never seen one of these cards which leads me to believe they were given out at one of the WGN Children's Charity events...which Bozo & the crew often were in attendance for....perhaps in conjunction with Cubs Care or something. That said, I'd be in if it were a card of Wizzo or Cookie instead.

  • It looks like that card was made as a reprint by the tv station (cause it appears they sure are promoting it on the back). Ive never heard of it and so I don't think its worth $80. Im sure someone on here would of heard of it.

I would offer $10 if that to be honest - and thats if I were a hardcore Donruss collector but aside from the 84 set - who really is?

I wonder if it says Donruss92 on the front? I can't tell but I am willing to bet it does
considering it has Bozo's stats for 91 so it would make it a 92 issue just using the
    91 Donruss design?

There is another single that has a close up and it sayd 91 on the front..
It wouldn't be the first time PSA had no clue about something. It has to be
listed in Beckett non sports because PSA won't grade anything that's not listed
    in Beckett.......
