do you have a numismatic website?

what is it? content?

was thinking of collecting my overstrike/counterstrike images and just posting descriptions.
Not sure it's worth the 150 for a year of hosting/etc. I could buy a coin with that money image

do you have a site? are you active or do you regret creating it as a waste?

I have two, both in my sig line. I use 1&1 for my sites, I don't think I spend that much, but maybe when you add up domain name registration etc.

I like having it, I put up primarily pictures and short descriptions. I have also bought two very nice coins that people offered to me after seeing the site.

Mine is in my sig line.

Its a free photo album website setup from Coppermine Photo Galleries, link at the bottom of my Home page , and the Domain name is about 4-5 a year I think at Hostmonster, com.

I really should spend more time tending to it than I doimage
  • Mine (see sigline) is through I-Page, and was simple to set up and a lot of fun. I think it costs about $6 a month, and they give you some free access to web design programs. Don't be surprised when they try to sell you all kinds of add-ons and upgrades, but the price is still quite reasonable.

I do think that it was worth the effort.

    A while back I bought the domains RESPLANDORES.COM, 8REALES.NET, OCHOREALES.NET, and RESPLANDORES.NET

At some point I'll find time to start publishing content. My idea was to start an image archive specifically for 8 Reales coins.

Mine is in my sig, its free from that particular dealer and VERY active so I take advantage of it to house what I already have and for research with other owners of ancients.

Does anyone have a suggestion for dummies in terms of setup/updating.

Yes, the Australian Coin Collecting Blog. It costs me about $15 a year to host (but I also host a lot of other websites so the cost is low in comparison with hosting just one site). It's all driven by a blogging engine apart from some stand alone pages that are my own custom PHP scripts.
Successful trades with Syracusian, DeiGratia, LordM, WWW, theboz11, CCC2010, Hyperion, ajaan, wybrit, Dennis88 and many others.

I have had my website since June 2007.

It is hosted by Yahoo, for $14/month.

    I write my own HTML.

I put coins there, and other things.

Yes, and it's free. If you want unlimited space and the ability to share on the forum, it's not.

I actually double post them because I have a paid account, but I wanted this seperate. So I have this open to the public where anyone in the world can come and view the images, and I also have them locked down on my main website where only select people that I choose to give access can see them.

On my main account, I have more files stored than my hard drive could hold; I've been maintaining it since August 2004.

  • Cheapest (free) and easiest way is to set up a blog. See mine in my sigline. Throw some ads on there and you can even earn a little $ for coins.

I run this website on Australian coin values covering pre-decimal Australian coins from 1813 to 1964. It's hosted on my company's server which costs USD 250/month (it does other stuff) and the platform's built from scratch using CGI scripts written in C.

I have CoinsGB see sign line below.

Its essentially a British coin reference website where I aim to list all milled coins from Cromwell up to George VI, I'm adding a price guide, although when the site is complete I will probably start updating the price guide and making it current. I have also started adding rare varieties and auction prices realised.

I host it on Yahoo (used the Yahoo site builder tool to make it) and have signed up to ebay and Google ads but try and keep them relatively discreet. They help pay for the hosting and modest advertising for the site.

Good luck if you decide to go ahead. It takes a lot of time and patience but can be a labour of love. What I enjoy the most is completing a target I set for myself, ie to finish this or that section etc. and to see the page views increase each month. Last month it broke 30,000 page views, which was a first. Knowing people are using your site makes the work you put into it more worth while.

I would be careful about allowing someone to place advertisements on a personal website.

My friend created a website with simple math problems designed for children.

He allowed Google to place advertisements and they put some that were adult in nature.

He then received complaints from parents.

Watched and waited for 8Reales.com to expire and registered as soon as it did. Now to actually find time to start building it out.

Tried taking 1and1 and it did not work well for me in spite of being "dummy proof". Maybe it reflects on me image
  • I hope to do something with my two domains this coming year. So far, they sit empty. www.cerrorico.com and www.themountainofsilver.com, devoted to Potosi, Bolivia.
Lurker since '02. Got the seven year itch!

Yes, but largely winding it down to a singular topic - Scottish coinage, and no longer maintaining all the other topics I used to. Too many pages to keep up.

  • I have coinrainbows.com and one of my goals for 2012 is to get some content onto it. I have some work done on it but its not published and having sold my camera the goal will require reaching other goals in the intermediary.

It's a work in progress and since it's the same name as B&M, it seemed a natural fit and a super natural blessing to acquire a dot com with same name as the shop.

Happy New Year to coin people around the world.
