Ultimate Basketball Autograph Sets

Hello there, I am relatively new to collecting the Ultimate Basketball Autograph Sets.

I am very excited about this forum to talk about the Ultimate Basketball Autograph Sets and show off some of my collection and see some of yours.

First question, when you grade your cards do you use PSA or BGS and why?

Check out the Poll to vote for the best Basketball Autograph Set ever created, and if you have a set you think should be added just let me know.

I'm not sure what the "Ultimate" baskeball sets are. Post up some scans of your cards and show those puppies off!!! Always fun to see autographed cards.

I like Century Legends and Retro Inkredibles but nothing beats a signed classic set. I agree with my buddy airjoedan, a complete 1969 Topps set would be amazing. He's only like 7-8 away. I'm still missing 24-25. If you could ever assemble a signed 1971-72 Set, I think that'd be the ultimate. Great ABA Players (Warren Jabali/Doug Moe/Zelmo Beaty) with HOF NBA Stars (Kareem/Wilt/Hondo) etc. That'd be the best, plus the difficulty of signed cards by guys like John Brisker make it nearly impossible to complete. If you don't know Brisker's story, I've been wanting to option the movie rights for ages but I can't figure out who I would option them from. Wikipedia him, you'll be all aboard the John Brisker movie train.

But seriously. Retro Inkredible is great because of the Russell/Chamberlain signatures. But just wait until I finish 2010 SP Authentic signed base set.

I do like the Russell/Chamberlain combination, but the '99 set doesn't have MJ, Bird, Magic or Dr. J so I have to say I like the trade off with the 2010 Upper Deck Ultimate set with those 4 giving up the Chamberlain.

Welcome Mike. The Ultimate Basketball autograph sets are put out by Upperdeck and usually have around 20-35 cards needed to complete a set. For example the 2010 All Time Draft set featured 36 cards autographed in a limited edition between 25 and 75 depending on the player. The set was compiled as a survey of who would be drafted in what order if they all would have been drafted in a single draft:

    Athlete Team Print Run
    Michael Jordan Tar Heels 25
    LeBron James   25
    Bill Russell Dons 25
    Julius Erving Minutemen 25
    Magic Johnson Spartans 25
    Jerry West Mountaineers 25
    Larry Bird Sycamores 25
    Chris Mullin Red Storm 25
    Bill Walton Bruins 75
    Bob Lanier Bonnies 25
    David Robinson Midshipmen 25
    Elgin Baylor Redhawks 75
    George Gervin Eagles 25
    Hakeem Olajuwon Cougars 25
    Moses Malone   75
    Yao Ming   25
    Alonzo Mourning Hoyas 25
    Bobby Hurley Blue Devils 75
    Bill Sharman Trojans 75
    Calbert Cheaney Hoosiers 75
    Christian Laettner Blue Devils 75
    Cazzie Russell Wolverines 75
    Derrick Rose Tigers 75
    Danny Ferry Blue Devils 75
    Darrell Griffith Cardinals 75
    Danny Manning Jayhawks 75
    David Thompson Wolfpack 75
    Gail Goodrich Bruins 75
    Hal Greer Thundering Herd 75
    Lennie Rosenbluth Tar Heels 75
    Mateen Cleaves Spartans 75
    Phil Ford Tar Heels 75
    Brandon Roy Huskies 75
    Steve Alford Hoosiers 75
    Tim Hardaway Miners 75
    Tracy McGrady   75
    Adrian Dantley Fighting Irish 75

Here's my vote. I love this set because of the big, clear on-card autos.

I am in need of the following 3 cards to complete the 2010 Ultimate All Time Team set, if anyone can help me out:

    Anfernee Hardaway
    Danny Ferry
    Mateen Cleaves

I have seen the Hardaway, but have not seen the Ferry or Cleaves, has anyone out there even come across one? I am wondering if maybe they didn't get signed and released?

    Thanks!

Here is a scan of one of my Favorites from the 2010 Ultimate Shout Out set. It brings me right back to the 1991 team:

Ed, Stokes is probably the toughest guy in any basketball set. The best solution might be to have Jack Twyman and his wife sign the card. They cared for him when he was incapacitated.

Also, if anyone has a wild hair to start '99 Retro Inkredible, I just posted a 10 card starter set on the B/S/T Forum

I like those Inkredibles, but wow to get a set I would have to be able to get the Chamberlain and that's a tough one!

You have to go for a set that has Rodman in it! Ultimate Collection is my vote.
