    The plural of mark is mark, so I think it would be spielmark. But that's based on high school German a long time ago.


    Always interested in St Louis MO & IL metro area and Evansville IN national bank notes and Vatican/papal states coins and medals!

    "Spielmarken" was my shot from the hip, as well.

    Of course it does lend itself to rather more humorous pluralizations.

    Spielmarkifragilisticexpialadocious?

    Edit- no, wait. That last was an adjective, not a plural noun. Mary Poppins would snap me on the back of the hand with a ruler, no doubt.

    Spielmarke is the correct generic word for "gaming token" and the plural would be Spielmarken . Eine Spielmarke ; zwei Spielmarken . The subtle difference is that in Hochdeutsch Spielmark would be a gaming piece resembling the (then) currency of (Deutsche) Mark; the plural would be Spielmark (Eine Spielmark, zweihundert Spielmark). Oddly enough (Spiel)märker is a common slang for pl. Mark. In a casino you however play with a Jeton (pl. Jetons).

    Is there a reference book at all for spielmarke tokens? Ive picked up a few eye catching pieces but no idea who issued or for what purpose...oh and the always important $.

    here it is:

    you have one item with a value of 1 it is 1 spielmarke, value of 1 mark
    you have one item with a value of 100, it is 1 spielmarke, value 100 mark

    if you have 1 item with a value of 1 it is 1 spielmarke
    if you have 10 items with a value of 1 each it is 10 spielmarken, valued 1 each
    if you have 10 items with a value of 100 each it is 10 spielmarken valued at 100 each.

    to determine singular and plural it makes NO difference what it's value is.
    1 piece is one piece = Spielmarke
    2 or more = Spielmarken

    the plural of the value is mark !! regardless if it is ONE or 100. It is NOT marks.
