Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

Anyone Up for a U-Haul Trip?

I recently purchased a very large collection with the intention of breaking it up and reselling it. After spending a couple of weeks just moving it from the original storage unit to mine, I realized I don't have the time nor the energy to get this stuff sold. So, I've decided to sell the whole thing as one big lot. This is a local pickup only, unless someone wants to pay me to deliver it image I'm located in the Dallas area. Asking price is $10K, which should leave plenty of room for a profit.

I've gone through maybe 1% of what's here, so I don't have many details, but here's what I've seen:
65 Wax/Set cases - some have been opened and a few are missing a box or two, but not many.
I'm guessing around an additional 100-200 wax boxes.
Probably around 1 million loose cards.
Uncut Sheets
Supplies
Many, many sets
Mostly from the junk wax years, but I've seen some decent stuff.

Thanks!
- Britt

These Tiffany cases have been opened. A few sets are missing, some of the sets are opened, and I believe missing some cards. I went through one of the '89 Bowman sets, and there was no Griffey in it.

  • Random Question: Was this the collection from Chicago that included all of the Michael Jordan high end stuff? Just curious.
  • No. It's from a man that lives in my home town in Texas. Apparently his father had passed away and left him the collection, so he sold it to me.

    Is there anything noteworthy pre-1990?

    Thanks,

What would you predict would be the profit range to break up this lot?
  • That would be a monumental task to break all that up and sell it off piece by piece. Just think
of all the leg work involved with that. Good decision to try and sell it off in one deal. Good luck.

ldferg - I haven't even began to look through most of the stuff that's already opened, but out of the wax, not much is pre-88. Of the little bit I've gone through, the notable stuff was like a 3200 count box nearly full of ProSet errors, hundreds of Favre rookies, etc. No real real expensive cards that I've seen so far. The better cases are stuff like '91 UD FB, which I believe sell for around $200-250. I saw 8 of those.

handyman - that's a million dollar question. The way I looked at it when I bought it was that one should be able to get at least $2500 for the Tiffany stuff. The cases, if sold as cases, should probably bring somewhere in the $7000 neighborhood. I don't have even a count on the rest of the wax, because everytime I open up another box, I find 15-20 more boxes, but that should bring quite a bit as well I believe. Then all the other stuff would be on top of that.

BTW, I'm very open to offers on this lot.

edmundfitzgerald - Yeah, I have three kids under the age of 6 running around as well, so I would never get this done. It took me two weeks just to move it 10 miles (one pickup truck load at a time).

Darrell would give his value like they were mantle rookies. And Barry would you throw everything out in the alley.

There are two cases each of '89 Bowman, '90 Bowman, '87 Topps, and '87 Topps Traded. I think most of the sets have been opened except for most of the '87 Topps, and a set or two are missing from each of the brands. Some cards are also missing from a few of the sets, but I don't know exactly what, although I'm pretty sure the '89 Griffeys are missing.
