3 oz silver JMC (Johnson Matthey) question

I picked up the 3 oz JMC bar on top in the picture recently and noticed something peculiar about it. It is real, I've done weight/acid/ping tests to confirm that, but notice how the "3" in 3 oz is different and there is not a . (period) after the z
Unfortunately, I only have the other one to compare it to in hand. I have checked on about.ag.com to view the example they have on there and on eBay and they all have the rounded 3 and a period after the z, unlike the one I am asking about.
I do know the top one was purchased in 1965 and has been in a safe pretty much since then, probably why it's more "shiny" than just about every other JMC 3 oz'er I've ever comes across.
Anyone have any comments about why they think the top one is different than every other one that I have seen out there? Thanks

I had not realized the variation until now.

Here is my 3 oz JMC, also without the period after OZ. I have seen 4 oz, 5 oz, 7 oz and 10 oz JMC bars with the period following OZ but none without the period.

The 3 is different as well. Yours is the only other one that I have ever seen like this Mark. Maybe being from at least as early as 1965 has something to do with it?

I just looked at one I picked up earlier in the week and it is the "rounded with period" version. I have a few more 3 and 4 ozers but no access until Monday.

It could just be a "model change". Think about all the different 5 oz old pour Engelhards that are out there. Different data, different order of the data, with/without 'oz', etc.

    Nice catch, Rich!

Rich, thanks to the reference to the top bar being purchased in 1965. Your reference is the first time I have had anyone date one of these bars. I have offered if the early bars were from the 1960's or 1970's.

The guy I purchased it from provided me with a receipt that was given at time of purchase...12/23/1965 and it appears to be genuine. I don't know why someone would take the time to fake a receipt for something like this lol. Probably purchased as a X-mas gift that year for, get this, $8.35.

    Nice catch, Rich!
