Ebay power seller questions

How does it work, how many auctions do you have to list, how do you actually get it, and what discounts do you get (is it worth it to actually list stuff)

Edited to say:
that I'm about 2/3 of the way there (both transaction and $ wise), I have check marks listed to everything else for positives ratings etc.... is that the only thing that needs to be met to get a power seller?

From ebay's "site map": Power Seller Requirements

Edit to add: The quick answer is: Minimum sales volume with US buyers over past 12 months: $3,000 in sales and 100 transactions.

That is assuming you meet all the DSR and complaint standards also.

Powerseller status is based on sales; you need to sell $3,000 worth of merchandise and have at least 100 transactions in the past 12 months.

You used to get a 5% discount on your monthly bill, but they did away with that this year, probably to encourage you to be a Top-Rated Seller by offering free shipping, kissing buyers' ***es, etc.

They say their are benefits, but the only real material benefits are you supposedly get better customer support and you get the little Powerseller logo next to your name.

All in all, being a Powerseller is no longer what it used to be cracked up to be, it is all about being a Top-Rated Seller.

You need to maintain certain DSR requirements and there is a limit to the number of cases people have opened against you.

  • I'm already on that and the my ebay seller dashboard, I can't find some of the answers. Mainly being when is their "reevaluation" because after the auctions I have listed I should probably qualify.

Yeah, I'm within all limits 5.0,5.0,4.9,4.9, what are the requirements for a top rated seller?

When I click on that tab it looks like the only thing I don't meet is this.

    Requirements Your performance
    Transactions (12-month) 100 66

Edited to say, it says I need to be a bronze power seller to get top rated.

If you meet the $3K mark, it is probaly time to sell some cheap items to push that transaction # to 100+. Top rated seller gets you a 20% discount on FVF's. Well worth it if you are close.

    Morning,

What he said, the Power Seller/ Top Rated Seller hype by E-Bay means nothing to me, could care less !! But 20 % discount that is why I care, it saves me Hundreds of dollars on average per month !

I recently was upgraded to Silver Status and really I ask myself everyday if the 20% discount on fees is worth the headaches of dealing with the dumba$$es day in and day out to keep my feedback and star ratings up where they need to be. I have given partial refunds and even full refunds in some cases just to not have some idiot screw me over or to have said idiot who negged me for no reason at all turn that feedback positive.

The whole system is pretty much BS anymore. Buyers should have to justify the reason for dinging stars when you do nothing wrong at all.

<<< how do you actually get it >>>

If it's the same as when I received it years ago, they will contact you automatically and you'll get it automatically. Used to be you could opt-out because some including me didn't want the "powerseller" logo attached to my auctions carrying the stigma of all the weasel powersellers on ebay, and some prospective buyers who got burnt before by scumbag powersellers, wouldn't bid on your actions with that logo on there because these prospective buyers would lump you in with the others.

As Neil mentioned, the discounts are very nice, and in my opinion the "top rated seller" badge is an advantage...and to my knowledge, I don't think you can opt-out on the badge anyway.

I've also wondered too how many people get dinged on stars simply because its a PITA to click right on them when you're in a hurry. VERY easy to miss a star and leave a seller a 0 for that category. I always have to double-check before I hit 'Leave Feedback'

I think I got in by default.I am not a big time seller by no means however in the past year or so I have dissolved a portion of my personal collection and do not plan on selling anything until after the first of the year again and that will be limited to singles from sets that have been upgraded that I do not plan on selling anytime soon.Power Seller does not mean anything to me and I am sure I will lose the status eventually.

I was going to lose my discount in early spring and posted about it on these boards. I was able to find out that the 3 bad star dings all came from the same buyer, who happened to buy around 18 auctions off of me over the course of a month. They didn't mean to do this at all and I had to fight with eBay for a week to get them to outright remove the wrong feedback. There is no way to get a buyer to change star dings if they left positive feedback, it can only be outright removed. Now if they leave a neg or neutral this can be fixed if you request them to.
  • I believe you only need to maintain a 4.6 on the DSR's to get the 20% discount for Top Rated, which is easier than before. In the past, the higher the DSR's, the bigger the discount. Therefore, if you get dinged a few times, it's not a big deal as long as those dings aren't 1's or 2's. The biggest way to get dinged is if your shipping costs are too high, and for me, it seems like $3 shipping for a card in a standard sized PSA holder does the trick. You can mail it in a small bubble mailer with a couple thin pieces of cardboard surrounding it at 3oz for $1.75 postage. Therefore you're still about even when you factor in the ebay/paypal fees on the shipping and the costs of the mailer/tape, etc.

I am really sick and tired of Ebay. They "revoked" my power seller status even though I have 100% positive feedback because I am now at 4.8 on shipping charges. I charge $3 (clearly stated in auction). If you think that is too high, dont bid! You can't win an auction and bang shipping...its just not right. I always take shipping (no matter how much it is) into my bidding thought process. Anyway, the net result is that now, Paypal (Ebay) IS NOT RELEASING MY MONEY until about 2 weeks go by. I am not even sure that is legal! Imagine the money they make off the "float" of 2 weeks time X's millions? of people's money that they "hold"...If you are a seller, Ebay sucks...

I am also sick of the Top Rated/Powerseller game. For smaller sellers like me, it only takes one or two crazy buyers and you're done. I will find other ways to get my FVF discount.

The 20% refund on FVF's at the end of each month are the only reason I care about being a top rated power seller

If your stars get dinged more than 2 times in a year, you are toast......
