have any 1804 bank of england dollars out there?

curious about the issue (obvious reasons)....

I'm just wondering approx what percentage are thought to evidence the host coin?

not sure if that feature is considered a rarity or not.

neat stuff!

They are a lovely design, and it seems that most exhibit some ghost of the undertype so unless it was really strong I don't think there would be any additional value. Here's mine, a mint state example and a copper proof.

    Here's mine.

It hasn't survived the centuries entirely intact. It's got old cleaning, and there's damage beneath the king's chin that looks like a love-token-maker has been practising their stippling.

There's enough surviving and readable detail of the undertype on mine to ID it as a CAROLUS IIII dollar, but the date and mintmark are unreadable. I'd only expect to pay a premium for an "undertype details showing" dollar if the date and mintmark were visible.

The dollars used as blanks for the BoE dollar were flattened, then struck on Boulton's steam press. This means that much less undertype detail is usually visible than on, say, the Brazilian 960 reis series.

It depends on what you mean by the question. Do you mean the percentage of coins extant with undertype visible relative to the total number of original strikings or including restrikes? Obviously all overstruck pieces must be in silver, but Taylor produced silver restrikes which would influence the actual numbers involved.

For the record, Jeff's copper piece is a restrike.
