Poll: Pre 52, pre 81 and newer who grades your cards and why..

Pre 52 - I don't have any, not that I wouldn't want some

Pre 81 - mostly (95%) PSA, the registry helps

1981 forward - 95% Beckett, too many psa 10's water down some really good cards, i.e. maddux, chipper, clemens. Makes it almost worthless to receive a 9 in some cases.

Let's here how you do it.

Pre 60 only.PSA and SGC.I like SGC grading standards and consistency however because of its popularity among buyers I use PSA 80 to 90 % of the time.

I think your logic on this is way off. I think if anyone is detroying the graded market/hobby its Beckett. One company two differant grading companies.... Flooding the market, really? Maybe if PSA didnt come to be until after BGS and the fact that during the 80s-part of the 90s they mass produced everything, PSA would not be to blame for "watering down some really good cards" as you say.

Everyone and their mother was sending cards to PSA. When thousands of dollars are being paid for Griffey, Maddux, Clemens PSA 10 rookies just to name a few, people are going to send
every card they can find of these players to get graded. You want to blame someone blame people greed for money.

If anyone over grades cards its BGS. Dont believe me? Go look up the video of the BGS 9.5 Strasburg on Youtube.

I have seen the video. But I don't think you can go by one card as your reason. I am sure PSA has graded/misgraded before. Check out some of the big "PSA Guys" inventory on Ebay, I bet it looks a lot different then your last few subs. If you just feel more comfortable with PSA that's fine.

None for SGC! Mixed with BVG and PSA for me.
  • I perfer PSA for any year. If it is something I want I would also take SGC or BVG/BGS.

    No one else.

  • 1938- older- SGC 100%, largest part of my collection is here too. Many reason why I choose SGC, I prefer the holders look and how my cards look in them, they sell for the same as PSA in these years so no real sales advantage, there CS is the best and sending subs in is easy and not the pain that PSA is.

1939-2011- PSA 80%, SGC 20% Happy with both, PSA got me back into collecting 10 years ago and so I still am loyal to them and the registry sets I started back then. In these years imo the high grade cards sell for more in PSA, the mid range is a toss up so I get many of them graded by SGC simply because of how they look. I also flip PSA cards to registry collectors to support my collecting addiction.

Have not used Beckett but own a couple and think they do a good job just no real reason to sub anything to them.

-1. Yes the strasburg superfractor and sheet cut, bad mistakes by becketts but psa has their fair share of altered cards and bad grading
  • Pre 52 I go with PSA. 1981 and older I grade with PSA, and anything newer than 1981 I always submit to PSA.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

For my collection, the only cards that I get graded are pre 1941, and they are only graded by SGC - for all the reasons smtjoy stated earlier .

The rest of my collection (1951-1979) I prefer to keep raw.

The only cards I send in to get graded by PSA are cards (1951-79) that I hope will be appealing to the Registry fiends.

Beckett gets no business from me.

Pre 52 - SGC for PC tobacco cards, PSA for everything else, especially those I'm looking to sell for profit.

Pre 81 - PSA all the way.

1981 forward - I don't care. Not worth the grading fees for any company IMHO.
