Maybe you should look into Golden Retrievers. They are very easily trainable and smart, even though ours is a bit lazy.

Oh, yeah, as if we need another lousy cur around here. We've reached our doggie quota.
Dixie, our border collie/regular collie mix, is Golden Retriever-like in temperament. And smart... but lazy, as you mentioned. (See picture in the other thread.) She has that herding instinct, too, and keeps that lousy pony in line.
Bailey does that. It's nice to come home after a hard day, take off one's hot shoes, and have a dog lick one's feet. Not as good as the foot massages my daughter gives, but I'll take it.
Of course you have to watch out for a footlickin' dog. If you aren't careful, he'll try to be a buttlickin' dog like he is with the other critters!
(Yeah, yeah- I know- that was FAR too much information about the social habits of dogs. Nothin' you didn't already know, though.)
