World’s biggest gold coin weighs a ton, costs $57 million

Pining for something ridiculously expensive? Perhaps a blinged up iPad 2 or a posh camper? There's a single coin that can afford all those…and more. The world's largest gold coin was recently unveiled by the The Perth Mint in Australia to mark the opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Weighing an astounding one ton (or 2204 lbs.), it is enormous not only in size, but also in value; the coin's value tops $57.34 million based on current gold prices.

Who knows PCGS might grade that coin for you so they can get some publicity, but they better have a fork lift to get it in the building!

I wouldn't buy it. It's been tooled, polished and heat treated.

    Obvious publicity stunt.

The video 'did' explain why they did it.

It would be cool to hand pick the best one of these from an original bag.

Amazing video thanks, I thought if was kinda funny using a router to make the reeding. Also I had no idea know it was cast coin. Over all an amazing feat on the Perth Mints part.

I would of thought it would of had to be struck and not cast to be an official record. Are there any other examples of cast coins (other than counterfeits)?

Cool, but at what point does a coin just become a statue?
