ASE Anniversary Set and Mucho Problemo

hammer1hammer1 Posts: 3,874 ✭✭✭✭✭
Remember the 5 oz pucks? Initial sales on ebay saw 50% sold as sealed sets. I haven't looked at all the ASE Anniversary sets, but of the twenty or so I looked at, maybe two (10%) were advertised as individual mint sealed sets. I only saw one seller state his set was from a box of 5, and wouldn't be sealed.

Because of a record setting sell out and excitement, buyers are not realizing they want a sealed set, and are hurriedly buying any set. I bet half the single set presales are people expecting a sealed mint box. Will they be surprised to receive an open set from some seller who broke open a box of five sets. I see lots of cancelled transactions.

If you presold your set to a large dealer, how many here are ballsy enough to pre-sell their sets on eBay with the hope that they could repurchase them cheaper on eBay in the next couple of weeks?

Sets will drift lower from until the graded sets appear on ebay.. then another price explosion with the hopes of scoring a 70 set

Once those boxes are cracked open they are done for 25th anniv label and first strike on the ones eligible. I think the PCGS FS special label coins will be much much scarcer than normal because of this.

You can get PCGS First Strike on opened boxes, just can't get 25th Anniversary.

Many ebay presellers are taking their box of five, building a good looking set for themselves and selling the remaining four sets, unsealed. I see nothing unethical. Buyers just need to be aware of this possibility when buying an unsealed set. Sealed sets sell for more because of this reason and because of the grading restrictions.

Sellers that are doing this will not be able to get the 25th designation on the three previously released coins. the two money coins should still be eligible for 25th labels indefinitely and First Strike labels if submitted within PCGS's 30 day window.

disclaimer: my sealed box of five (if i get it) is going for grading.

Repetition of ignorance is ignorance raised to the power two.

No reason the two unsealed money coins won't be eligible for anniversary label indefinitely, the set was the only way they were released. They should also be eligible for first strike if unsealed and submitted within the 30 day window for the set since they were only released in a set

I say lets wait for the FIRST Unopened Box IN HAND sells for. That is going to be the gauge, and all other open sets will drop. We saw that with the pucks people were willing to pay for a chance rather than not knowing if the party picked it. Should be fun to watch, And I also agree some who are buying don;t know about the whole sealed box thing, Will make my 1 listing explaining why my sealed box is a much better buy Enjoyimage

Ordering one at a time is the most profitable but you run the risk of getting 1 or 2. $1000 or more soon for single sealed boxes in my opinion.

How do you figure running the risk of getting one or two.

I guess you run the risk of not being able to get 5 separate orders in before the sell out. I was able to get my 5 single orders in but it wasn't easy.
