<< <i>As mentioned in another thread, there seem to be a lot of flippers out there. There are too many for me. It's crossed the line into something more like scalping. >>

I don't think that a US government agency should be taking actions that encourage speculation of this nature. >>

I agree completely with this. It seam to me to be the perfect storm for the flippers and the mint could have taken a few small steps to prevent it but they didn't. >>

Anything that is popular is going to result in a situation like this... regardless of the mint's hh limit, etc etc.
And the fact that it is popular is partly (or mostly) due to the mintage....so that is something else they couldn't change.
It's just the nature of collecting, business and supply and demand.

This set wouldn't have generated anywhere near as much interest had the mintage been higher (or unlimited).
I agree also with those who feel the Mint screwed the pooch on this one.
If they were gonna limit production, the HHL should have been less than five, maybe 2 or 3.

"doubt they could sell another 100k?

they sold 250k of the 20th ann. and those sold out."

I said IF they announced they would make 10 Million, they wouldn't sell 100k. That's based on the premium. If they were ALL just more bullion coins, I doubt they'd get that premium. Also if there really are 100,000 people putting sets together, I think the estimates for the number of serious collectors is too low.

  • After the ATB debacles with the authorized purchasers, this was sort of a bit of fresh air...sure, the Mint botched the HH limits, and it was frustrating, but you could be sure that nobody was loading a van in the back alley. The games that have been played with the 2010 and 2011 "bullion" are killing that series for me.
