What do you think about the overtime rules in college football.

For example, Stanford v. USC yesterday. Triple overtime.

Not sudden death. Both teams get a chance to score. Need only 25 yards to score a touchdown since you start at the 25 yard line. Starting in the third overtime you must go for the 2 point conversion since the PAT is not allowed.

Your thoughts and comments please.

Not a big fan of their OT rules, or the NFL OT rules.

If the game is tied after the 4th, why not just switch ends but keep playing where the game left off, just like at the end of the 1st and 3rd quarters? First score wins. It's not unfair to either team, it requires extra 4th quarter strategy, and it's not contrived (like the current college rule is).

it' designed to shorten the game (the two point conversion)

    nothing is perfect

in NFL if you lose the coin toss, 30% of the time you will lose the game without ever touching the ball.

I'd rather see it start at the 50 instead of the 25. It would make it more of a challenge.

I think they're pretty clever actually. They work similar to innings in baseball and making them go for two after a touchdown starting with the third "inning" adds a nice touch. It's an improvement over the NFL's "OMG!!! FIELD GOAL!!! ME WIN!!!!" image

I actually think it's pretty exciting and have no problem with it.

I like the college rules except that I would start them at the 35 or 40 instead of the 25. I hate the idea that you're in easy FG range at the start of each OT period.

I also don't like that OT stats count toward players' season totals.

Absolutely detest the NFL rules. The idea of losing without ever touching the ball is just not right.

Never liked it at all. No regard for the kids who are dead tired after a 60 minute game, and then asking them to play more? - that sucks.

What's the big deal about a tie? So what. But of course it's all about the money.

Why not? OT, eh I mean extra inning stats count towards baseball players' season totals. What's the difference?

There's nothing contrived about extra innings. The 10th inning is exactly like the 9th inning. In college football, they put the ball on the opponent's 25 yard-line to start. That would be like MLB putting a runner on 2nd base to start the 10th inning.

They actually do that in international softball games.

Because teams don't have to drive the full length of the field to score. The scoring in OT is done under completely different conditions than regulation.
