What does "non-hammered" mean on

the PCGS online submission form?

    As relates to early European coinage it would mean machine made, using a screw press or later mechanical/steam presses. Ancient and medieval coinage was struck by hand using a hammer with the blank between the two dies.

    Now as to whether or not that is what they refer to I can't say.
  • Does PCGS slab hammereds ? This is a game changer for me , id be tempted if thats the case.

    Hammered coins were made in the pre-screw press days---one die was held in place, a planchet was placed on that die, the coiner would hold a second die against the planchet with one hand and then hammer that die with a hammer held in his other hand. Such coins were crude and are more difficult to grade.
