This one is in an older NGC slab and is a tougher coin to grade if you don't know this series, but there are clues.
First generation CBH design that I picked up from a pretty smart guy.
I think NGC got it right by the way.
What say you on this snowy Sunday in the northeast?

Congrats on the very nice NewP
NGC AU55
I don't want to guess any higher for fear of embarassing myself.
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces
Myself I like it as a AU53.
I don't want to guess hi and make it look like I over-graded it, and possibly ruin my online reputation so I say XF-40.

<< <i>Nice and original, with luster and color!
Now what do you mean in an older ngc slab.....which one to be exact? >>
The question is : How much will it cost to get the OP to let go of it ?
It looks like AU 62, but if you know NGC and PCGS ... they ain't givin' it up. And that means even if they disagree by 2 to 3 grade points on any particular coin, because of adopting standards. But that's my simple mind thinkin' again.
otherwise I say 55
...but I got no proof. Just what my eyes have been seeing and my ears have been hearing. Just look at the coin.

<< <i>Well, it's in the "wrong" holder, no sticker so there must be a reason for this...... right?

Sheesh
Well it has no sticker cause it has been in the bank box since before the sticker company ever thought about starting a sticker company and it is in the wrong slab because I don't play that game.
As for your online rep Mr. "use to be" one smart man that stman.....
And thanks for selling this one to me back in the day you use to know how to grade these...

I knew all that which is why I wrote what I did. Man, I do remember this coin. How many years has it been? I liked the coin and found it at a very small show if I recall correctly. Is that the story I told ya? You were a very smart man to grab it when you did. And I do still know how to grade these. Heh Heh
P.S.--I think that AU is too generous. I'm in the 35/40 crowd.
My faith in you is restored
This is my pic and notice how I can't capture the real color of a coin even when I try?
Sorry Realone but I have no idea which generation NGC holder it is.
The original pics are by Mark (mgoodm3)
Thanks for posting the grade.
Can't say that I agree with it, but then, I don't operate a grading service either.
My guess would have been NGC 58, cross currently to PCGS as 53. It is an attractive coin, and I do like it.
Choice 1808 for sure !
In never considered anything lower than a 58. One can always grade a coin by luster if the strike is throwing you off.

There is only a touch of rub as well. If it was a lower grade there would be more of a wear pattern on Liberty's face and more broken luster IMO.
Of course if the owner doesn't like the coin, I would probably bail him out of the coin what he paid me years ago. That JRocco is a wise man.

And thank you stman for being there to bail me out of this one if I ever should need bailing out
When I knew you had purchased this coin in 58 plastic I knew it had to be solid for the grade because
I am sure you looked at it for several hours under multiple different light sources and those "stman only"
geometrically impossible angles using multiple loupes to see if there might be a hairline buried somewhere
in a recessed area.
In other words, if it got you to pry open your wallet I knew it was solid for the grade.

Thanks. I think I posted her, but it got a little crazy in that
thread and I lost track of what I had posted
