Newp - Seated Quarter

Picked this up at the local coin show today. Bought it from a dealer who specializes in world coins but has a nice selection of U.S. coins as well. I really liked the "authentic" color as he put it.

This is the first time I have scanned a coin picture versus using my camera. I kind of like it.

Guess the grade the dealer assigned the coin

VF-25 Perfect in every respect, the color is great and the nice even wear with no distractions whatsoever. Very good pick up.

my guess is the dealer had it marked as a Fine 15.

I like it a lot. I will guess VG10/F12 as the dealer assigned grade, though I do not believe that to be the grade that I would give the coin.

Can't see any dealer assigning less than a full Fine to such a coin with such a strong "liberty." I'd vote for VF20 to VF25 for actual grade.

The commonest no motto Philly quarters of 1853, 54, 56, 57, 58, 61, and 62 are suprisingly available in totally original and problem grades of VG-XF.
It's just a matter of what price it costs to get them from your local shops and dealers. Finding the halves in that condition is quite a bit more difficult.

    Dealer grade = VG?
"Real" grade = F-15 (so close to VF-20!)

    Nice looking coin.

Technical grade VF20, but because of skin and surfaces it gets a VF25 all day long. Very nice coin.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?
  • I have no idea what the dealer graded it but I personally would grade it as a borderline VF.

Nice coin. What kind of scanner do you use?

Coin is a VF all the way. Can't see it being called more or less honestly.

Here is a pic of my 1857 which OVERgraded in an NGC AU50 holder. A perfect XF in my eyes.

I used an HP Photosmart printer/scanner for the picture.

The dealer had it graded at VF-30. I am not an expert on the seated quarter grading but looked at the reverse and thought it sure looked like a nice VF to me with no real problems on either side. It is one of those coins I just can't stop looking at and it was so much more affordable than a nice bust quarter that I might have to start looking for these also image

    Love your coin John.
