Isn't he more of a Pirates fan than a Cards fan?

Steelers I know, but most fans of Pittsburgh teams don't want to own the Pirates...
  • This is an ex-RYK coin that I purchased (without knowing it's previous ownership), graded XF45. Unfortunately, I later sold it to raise funds for an important acquisition, an 1840-D quarter eagle.

Congratulations to RYK and all the other citizens of "The Gateway to the West."

  • I have it on good authority that he is indeed celebrating, and, importantly, in a most suitable hat.

  • For the record, here's the reason that I sold the coin formerly owned by RYK (although I didn't know that it was ex-RYK at the time). I had an opportunity to buy this 1840-D quarter eagle at the 2008 ANA in Baltimore, but it was a stretch financially. I was forced to sell a couple of coins, in order to free up some capital.

This coin is ex-James Stack and is one of the very few 1840-D quarter eagles that exists without severely cracked dies. Additionally, it is very difficult to find with good eye appeal.

Maybe RYK will giveaway a dirty gold coin as part of his celebration!

Actually, Wei, you are correct. I root for the Pirates over the Cards, but when was the last time the two teams play a game of any significance? I get on the Cardinals bandwagon when they are doing well. I probably go to 3 or 4 games each year, playoffs, All Star games, etc. when they are in town.

Tonight, I had the experience of attending my first ever Game 7 of a World Series (I had attended Game 4 of the 1979 series in Pittsburgh and Game 4 of the 2006 Series in St. Louis). Since I currently own no Cardinals logo merchandise (because for some bizarre reason I do not believe in supporting MLB), I wore a nifty red CRO cap to the game.

Now that the sideshow of baseball is done for the season, we can get back to what's really important--football...and coins!

    1881-S $5 NGC MS-62* CAC ex-RYK, ex-Eliasberg

This Half Eagle was last auctioned by Scotsman in St. Louis. I was the underbidder for the coin, RYK was the high bidder. About a year after the auction, RYK graciously sold it to me. The star designation was awarded for the reflective fields and contrasting devices.

GeorgeKellogg—The color on the 1840-D is spectacular!
