Unfortunately your scanner has the CIS (Contact Image Sensor) instead of the CCD (Charged Coupled Device). The CCD provides you with the ability to scan graded card slabs without making the card and label appear blurry. The CIS only clearly scans items that are making contact with the surface of the scanner. Anything that's slightly off of the surface will appear blurry.

Here is a scan from mine (Epson Perfection V300 Photo):

When I scanned that I used:

    Image type: 48-bit Color
    Resolution: 300 dpi
    Unsharp Mask: Checked High
    Dust Removal: Checked Medium

...but usually when I scan for ebay and stuff I use 200 dpi.

Sean ... not very clear, for the reason Jeff gave. I too have the Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner and it does an amazing job. Have probably been using it for over 2 years.

Yeah, when dealing in graded cards, it's worth spending a little more on a decent scanner.

True dat, better than cell phone pics!

I used a $30 scanner for eight years and did just fine, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hey Jeff, how did you get the glare lines to not appear along the edges of the slab like I have on my scan?

I was going to ask about the LED lines as well. If you're using the Epson to scan refractors, be ready for rainbows all over your cards.

Jeff...not sure how I did that. I will have to take a look at my settings and get back to you.

Espon is the only way to go. I use an Espon Perfection 610 which is 10-11 years old. I run it with Irfanview software (free version) and very happy with my scans.

Epson V330. I have some slides I need to make images of. But if I had only cards, I would just get the V30

I have a 5 year old HP Scanjet 4370 that I like. Not a graded card, but a good result:

Can be had for under $50 used now, original was $100.

That Epson V330 is awesome! I may have to upgrade!

If price isn't a big issue the Canon Canoscan 9000 is unreal, has dedicated film scanner etc, always gets top marks on reviews, it's what grading companies use, mine put me back $250-300 but I smile every time I use it... and for what it's worth I did a lot of research and decided it was worth the investment.

Guys...you can pick up the Epson V30 for $49. Only difference between it and the V330 is you cant do slides.

    THANKS guys!image

Just hooked up an Epson Perfection V300 and it is the BOMB!image

Well worth the cost. If you are selling high grade cards and do not have a good scanner, you are missing out on bids!

    Thanks again,
