beating a dead horse but a first strike question.

Okay so lets say that all 100,000 sets got sent into 1 grading service unopened. Are they all 1st strike? That seems to be the criteria.
Even unopened you can have the last set struck by a die, but how do they know and what is the criteria?
Regards,

Jim

  • I don't play those games but, if i recall correctly, this marketing strategy has more to do with submission dates then what was actually first struck. image Use the search feature for more about this designation.

Everyone of these sets will be first strike eligible, so it is point less in my opinion to get them graded FS and pay the extra $18.00 fee.

Do you really believe that, or are you guessing?
You do know what qualifies for FS with PCGS, right? 30 days past the time that the first ones are shipped. So, if your shipping from the mint is delayed for 31+ days, your box would be postmarked with an eligible date.
It has NOTHING to do with when the coin was minted nor sold on the usmint's site.

  • So, if theorectily, if every set got sent in the day they were were received, they would all be first strike? Just asking..... What makes a first strike a first strike. besides a label.

An unsatisfying as it sounds, you've figured it out.

First you have to pay for the First Strike designation. Second they have to be sent in before the cut off date or in the original sealed shipping box if sent in after the cut off date.

first strike => first 30 days of shipments from the mint.

if all get shipped in 30days, then... theorhetically... they would all be 1st strike eligible.

However, PCGS would have to acknowledge they all left within 30days and grant "all get 1st strike" based upon that.

  • So really it has nothing to do with first strike. It has to do with how fast you get your coin in for validation. I bought 5 sets but this desgination just seems absurb. """I would think that for every die there could only be one first strike, and it might be a bad coin!!!!!!!! but who knows and does it matter.
