Found BOTH of these in change today....opinions please?

Well, with all the hoopla about the 25th Anniv ASE sets, after I got my second order in (the one I probably won't get...all with a date of 11/11/11 are proably 'wait listed'), ran to the store, got a few things, came home and emptied my pockets, searched the change before dumping it into my change jug. Normally, except for a little silver, everything goes into the jug (meaning, I usually don't find Jack). Well, today, I finally (I think) found a few keepers, but need a little help from you Lincoln experts. I checked the CPG, and I believe I have positively ID'ed them, but would appreciate input. It's known I pretty much stink at taking images (I still can't get a good enough image of one of them...which I am sure is a '94 DDR), but here is what I have for images for the other 2.

First up, this is what I believe to be a 1984 DDO....the spot that looks like verdigris is actually a shadow, and the other marks/spots are from an uncleaned 15X loupe..I think it's easy enough to identify as the FS-801:

And this one was tough to image, but I believe my image is good enough to show the doubling on, what I believe to be, an FS-801 1997 DDO:

These were BOTH received in change today (can't imagine from the same place, but then again, who knows). After 'busting them' for a few hours to get an order for the 25th Anniv set in (hopefully my 2nd order isn't a 'waiter'), my whole day changed after finding these, as I find virtually NOTHING in change, except the occasional silver Roosie/Washie. So, can you fine folk verify that I found what I think I found? Thanks in advance!!!

edited...the '84, what looks like scratches on the coin, there is nothing there on the coin... just looks like a bad planchet (gas bubbles), and is, IMO, a good AU50. The '97, it is a nice red, and could be, IMO an MS coin. I should post an image of the coin itself to show the condition of it. Thanks for input!
I'll come up with something.

You're a funny guy, you are!!!!

Now, that the '84 has been positively ID'ed as the FS-801 DDO, can anyone verify the doubled ear on the second one as being the '97 FS-801? That one is tough to image, at least for the photographically challenged NotSure. Kinda exciting, as I NEVER find anything in change.

    Thanks for the input, everyone!

    I'll come up with something.
  • NS the 97 is the 801 but I have never personally believed it is a DDO, I think it is a well placed die chip, but that is my opinion.

TN...the CPG questions the validity of the '97 FS-801 being a true DD, also. Thing I can't understand is....if it is that questionable as a true DD, why is there such a high price tag on it?

edited to add...I guess I should sell it now, while the price is high, before it gets un-designated???

    BOING!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • Why the high price tag, well not to beat a dead horse but why the price tag on the High/Low leaves? There are plenty of people who want a complete variety set so they sell for what they sell for. Just like the 1980 D/S Lincoln, even after it was proven not to be a D/S people still pay huge premiums for them. Either they don't know or don't care, I don't know.

    Those are both nice finds!

The odds are so against getting both nice varieties in change, you gotta wonder if the previous customer hadn't raided their dads coin collection. Makes you wonder if you got a few more cents in change there might have been an 83 DDR or 72 DDO in it!

I think the 97 is going to stay collectible, it's always been questioned but it's still valued by many collectors for whatever it is.

I thought that myself, in regard to someone raiding dad's collection. Thing is, I got change from 3 different places, in 2 different cities...one 25 miles from the other 2. But, where I have no idea where they came from, there IS a possibility they both came from the same place. I'll hit all 3 places tomorrow, who knows. Though, I do hope I'm not holding onto 'dad's coins'. I know I'd be bummed if they were mine. I also know if they were MY dad's, and I did that, and he found out, I know I'd be waking up sometime next week!

pontiacinf....according to the CPG, they state:

"First reported by Larry Philbrick, this has become a controversial variety. It is listed by CONECA as a doubled die, but we don't believe it is. However, this is a neat variety, whatever the cause".
    I'll come up with something.
