Yeah, but pro athletes are also stuck in a catch-22. They are "just" employees, but they are also reprsentatives of the company. In fact, if you listen to the NBAPA they are actually the product. Sadly, they can't have it both ways no matter how hard they want to - if you are paid as more than just an employee, then you get held to a higher standard.
That said - yeah, it's pretty dumb that the press is making it such a big deal. From what I can tell, the club was fine with his initial mea culpa.

It's the same as when Brady said fans need to "lube up" before the game. I live in RI, and I read the Patriots articles in the local paper every morning. In many articles, the players and Belichick make it a point to stress that there is a "Patriot way" and that the players are instructed to keep mum about certain issues and keep personal problems from taking the spotlight.
That said, I think the media gravitates to when Patriots get caught in snafus because there is a level of discipline and professionalism that the Patriots stress that other teams do not, and when they violate the standards they set for themselves they get unfavorable press.

Yep, it's "boy bites dog" as my journalism teacher used to say.

<< <i>I would say if I had pics of her in my bedroom like these I would make sure they got all over the net as well. >>
Exactly...
I guess as a sane human being I can say he does with his "head" what he wants. I find the media and what they do a pretty dumb concept overall.
Edited to add:
Here is the title "Gronkowski: 'I didn't intend ... to hurt the reputation' of Patriots with Twitter pics"
I find that absurd... He hurts no reputation, I'd give the guy a pat on the back if I knew him.
I think the NFL and media don't completely understand that most of these guys in the NFL aren't from there generations, and growing up and through high school ALL of our standards our different. Seriously, 'tail', education, and drug use - they are all completely different now than they were in the 70's-90's. The guy is 22, he is only 4 years out of high school. If I had abs like that (Seriously, I'm a guy and can say he's built) and had the chance to get with an adult star and put pics like that over the web I would do it and never look back.
One thing which may have played a role is that a Patriots jersey was involved. If it was just a pic of them with no corporate logos or identities, then that's one thing. But once the Patriot logo / jersey is involved, then the Patriots can play it off that it involves their corporate branding and reputational risk at that point.
I'm not believing that, but just playing devil's advocate.

That actually is a really really good point. If they weren't immediately discernible it may not have fallen on bad eyes... (Media cough...)
What's wrong with a grown man enjoying the fruits of his success the way he chooses? Here's a man in his prime choosing to spend time with a women he finds hot. Good for him. The world outside his bedroom should care less. Whatever floats one's own boat. No need for anyone to pass judgement on the type of woman the dude gets down with.
Edit to add: It's not like the dude is doing illegal drugs or engaging in any type of criminal behavior. We can't expect our role models to choose a certain type of woman, just to set the 'proper' example. They have their own lives to lead.
Actually, never mind-- I just read they both say they didn't even hook up.

It is very much a non-issue. If he played for another teaam (Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Carolina, etc.) it would have never gained any attention.
