Sellers on eBay is it safe?

This is the first sale I have made in quite some time, and I don't want to get burned for several hundred dollars.

Estimated funds availability 11/15/11!?!?!?!?!?

That looks like an e-Check and the date being that far away suggests that it's an international payment?
I get e-Checks (rarely) from Canadian buyers and it's usually 2-3 weeks to clear. My paypal message usually
tells me NOT to ship until payment "clears". Yours looks different and uses the word "pending".

Either way, I would not ship anything until you have payment for sure. Send a copy of the message to the
buyer and tell him/her you'll ship once the funds are available in your account.

Ebay probably did this due to inactivity on your sellers account. I recently started selling and my first 5-10 transactions had this happen. Paypal held the funds until the cards were shown as delivered. I would call ebay and double check to be sure this is what it is.

Don't they also do that if you're a new seller or with less than 100 feedback?

WTF? I will contact eBay tomorrow. Buyer says he paid with PayPal and I think he did. I am not going to send out a $300 item without having the money in my account, that is for shure.

Now I am seeing why so many sellers are mad at eBay, I have over 1400 transactions and 100% feedback, but because I haven't sold in several years, I have to wait for my funds?

Joe,

I started selling on eBay again, just threw up a few things. I had this same email, just make sure you send the packages with delivery confirmation (either through paypal/ebay shipping or enter number from the post office slip).

3 days after delivery is confirmed the funds become available in PayPal. You can log into PayPal and see the funds are there, just pending.

I have had no issues with it, yet.

I am still confused at why this would be a policy. The package is ready to go with insurance and delivery confirmation. I see no reason to have to wait until he gets item to get paid.

Trying to generate funds to make house payment, not working due to injury and I am supposed to trust that I will get my funds?

I am under some stress and was happy to sell my item and relieved that I was on my way to getting the HP taken care of. This will probably work out fine.

Yes it's very annoying, but as long as you send with d/c it will become available within 1-2 days of shown delivered. I would definitely double check with ebay, just incase.

Happens more often than you'd think, Banzai. The buyer paid, but don't send the item until the check clears. Let the buyer know what's going on and he/she should have no complaints.

"It is safe" I think. Thanks for all the help. Buyer did pay with PayPal, however for some strange reason a three year old email address was still associated with my account. Funds are now showing in my PayPal account as pending.

I was not aware signature was required, hope this doesn't cause a new snafu. Sean1125 are you sure I won't get paid?

Yes Rick, I got that one. It looks like selling on eBay can be like a trip to the dentist.

With all that going on, I will say that both eBay's and PayPal's customer support did a nice job!

yes he will, unless the buyer is a criminal and says he never got it.

Edit - In the future make sure anything you sell over $250 has signature confirmation though. Shady buyers can and will win an "Item not received" claim. Regular delivery confirmation isn't good enough to fight anything over $250
