Just Lost a Coin I had Been Looking for Because I don't Have PayPal - - - Updated - I won the Coin

Oh well such is life. There were no other bidders on the coin and he refuses to take a bid from the only interested part. His loss.
By the way it was a top pop coin with only 5 in that grade.

Before anyone starts preaching at me about PayPal, I don't have and account and will never have an account.

Everyone makes their own choices in life, you'll find one from someone eventually that takes checks or MO's.

Sounds like it was your loss, too.

Doesn't sound like he'll have any problem selling that coin. You are punishing your nose to spite your face.

I'll be glad to buy the coin and ship it to you for 4%, less if it is over $10,000.

  • You should have at least had a buddy bid for you and pay and you could have paid him. I have had to do that before with 2 friends. It's good to have friends.
  • commacomma Posts: 1,528 ✭✭✭
I was going to suggest having someone else do it too. You could just write a check to the friend/family member, etc.
If it's a coin you really want I'm sure you could find someone image
  • A kind soul here on the Forum has already volunteered to bid on it for me. I might be wrong on the price but at least I will have a chance.
Due to my age and and my fading interest in spending large amounts of money on coins I have no one to leave to I am just buying inexpensive coins now that I like. The coin I am referring to is a darkside coin but in PCGS plastic.

I agree...you should have had someone step in for you. I did it myself, just a few weeks ago for a well-known fellow forum member. I'm sure there are plenty of people that would/will help. I'll offer my services to you, also, if you'd like. And I can give you the referrence of my last 'pinch hit', if it'd make you feel more comfortable.........just tossing it out there.
    I'll come up with something.
  • Thank you for the offer. A Forum member that I have bought from on the BST has already placed a bid for me. Being a darkside coin I have no idea the value but will just give it a try.

    Thanks,

Ron, you are quite welcome....in the future, my offer will always be open, should you have the need. Good luck with the item!

Not preaching...but after awhile paypal is as easy and comfortable as an old pair of sneakers.

.......still watching a black and white TV and using a fountain pen? probably not. Paypal is your next step.

Pay Pal doesn't cost the buyer, it costs the seller, except in this case it cost nothin'.
  • ambro51ambro51 Posts: 13,819 ✭✭✭✭✭
Youll start wanting paypal after the first money order you send out to someone for something...it never arrives....you hear nothing....the seller vanishes....

paypal saves your butt in that situation. I my business I sell a lot internationally, and wow without pay pal..youre stuck with international money orders...which are a real PITA
  • I have no problem with PayPal.... Ebay has some issues but PP is fine once you accept that the 3% is the cost of doing business

    Paypal is An AWESOME service.

Sounds like you don't like paypal MORE than you do collecting coins.

........and here we are preaching the OP about paypal when he specifically didnt want to hear that.

Ive found hardly any sellers who were not up for an express mailed USPS money order. Totally safe for them, quick, and they dont have to pay paypal fees. I usually ask if they would return the favor by shipping the coin back to me usps express, since I saved them money in paypal fees.

Of course, a LOT is dependent on whether you TRUST the seller. A 4 feedback seller who sold baby cloths and then has an MS68 morgan dollar...uhhhhh but a real dealer, ana, who you see has loads of sales of coins and great feedback...they are usually up for the money order/express mail plan.

Except those from the Canada postal service, you can cash them at your local Post Office.
I won't take PayPal from Canada unless the buyer is willing to pay for an insured, traceable, proof of delivery shipment - and those fees can get pretty high.
I won't ship to any other country, unless paid in cash or wire transfer - too much hanky-panky with those foriegn post offices.

No not a YN, I will be 63 in November.

I was wrong on the top pop part. There are 4 in MS-66 and 1 higher.

I think 63 may be within the average age of most forum participants (give or take 7 years).

BTW on shipping my greatest problems are with Spain.

I knew you weren't a YN I simply meant that maybe you had befriended a YN and could leave coins to them in lieu of family members.....

I was going to say the same thing. You can pay through paypal without registering an account....like buying something from many onlines stores as a guest.
  • Thanks to the help of an un-named Forum member I won the coin.
If anyone has an idea to the value of this please let me know. I don't know if I got a bargain, overpaid, or the price was about right.

Thank you for the prices. I did manage to find numbers on the population though. There are 4 graded 66 and 1 higher.

  • In all fairness Krause is about as accurate as the red book Ron in regards pricing. Last week i paid 67 bucks for a coin Krause said was worth half of that.it was keen enough bidding so not like i was alone.

No need to be afraid of PayPal as a buyer. If you don't want to you don't need to link a bank account and can just have a credit card. I think you can make $10,000 worth of purchases before you need a bank account. No risk to you, ebay or your credit card will protect you if anything goes wrong.
