If I had technical skills, I would provide a link...

Edit: of course, I meant Stacks Bowers.

Just came from there. A note of interest (while pointing revolver at foot) - in the fine print of terms of sale:
Pay for lots won with cash or cash equivalent (check, money order or wire transfer) and receive a discount of 15%, the equivalent of having the buyers fee waived. I like this competitive offer. Now if only Heritage would match this.

Since I always pay via cash or cash equivalent I had to go and read their terms... So if I'm reading this right paying via cash your getting a 3% BP discount on World or Currency at 15% instead of 18%.

    5. Buyer’s Premiums. For U.S Coins and Currency Sales (auctioned by Stack’s Bowers Galleries), a Buyer's Premium of fifteen percent (15%) on each individual lot will be added to all purchases made by Bidders, except for reacquisitions by Consignors, regardless of affiliation with any group or organization, and will be based upon the total amount of the final bid.
For World Coins and Currency Sales (auctioned by Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio), a Buyer's Premium of eighteen percent (18%) on each individual lot will be added to all purchases made by Bidders, except for reacquisition’s by Consignors, regardless of affiliation with any group or organization, and will be based upon the total amount of the final bid. However, if the purchaser pays for all invoiced lots in the sale in cash or by "cash equivalent" ("cash equivalent" is defined to include cashier's check or money order, approved check, wire transfer or other immediate bank transfer), the Buyer’s Premium will be applied at a discounted rate of fifteen percent (15%).

I just scoured the terms and agreement and couldn't find that 15% cash discount. I have never heard of such a thing since they would lose money on this auction. I want to believe though!

The the picture is of the auction coins being delivered to Stacks. The coin photographer took the picture. This will also be the means of delivering your winnings to you.

I read the terms too and didn't see that?

    Under Part 5:

"5. Buyer’s Premiums. Im pretty sure clause 5 is refering to the consigner who bids on his own items and wins gets the 15% BP waved NOT the regular bidders.
As others stated the auction house would not make any money otherwise
may the fonz be with you...always...

Pick any U.S. Coin lot in the sale, and on the right hand side of the lot listing page look at the box which is headlined as
BIDDING. Within that box, in parentheses is the phrase "Next Bid with BP: $XX", which is left of the Place Bid button. Place your cursor over the letters BP (abbreviation for BUYER'S PREMIUM) and read the text of the hyperlink window that opens.

Edited to update : I brought this to the attention of Stack's / Bowers customer service early this a.m. I am awaiting a call back from their IT department for a clarification

I think we can all safely assume there is no discount for cash buyers. That would be front page of Coin World type of news.

This is similar to the ANA getting the surplus/deficit mixed up last week. Speaking of which, I found out who was responsible for that. Not gonna say who it was, except to say it is a smart and hardworking person of goodwill who does not play politics.

Ok, it's back up again and working ........sort of.

    1) They "fixed "the "0.0%" for cash buyers pop up. It now reads 15%.

    2) I had a bid $2000.00 on a coin. However, it shows me being out bidded by someone with a bid of $2 total.

I will wait until this sorts itself out before I attempt to lower my bid by $1997 to became the new high bidderimage

I brought the issue to the attention of their IT department this morning, posed as a question. The bidding / viewing format had been launched prematurely last night, which is why it was closed out briefly this morning to make the correction regarding my observation. image
