Also, I think the things that give you satisfaction about your collection change as your collecting interests and priorities change.

Perryhall is Exactly right if we all intend to sell at some point in time, And we all better realize it sooner than later whilst we take a bath. However if you are intent on keeping the coin in your permanent permanent collection then Ambro's version is absolutely correct! I personally confess to following both rules, depending on my long term goals. >>
How often does a collector decide that he will keep a coin forever and then a few years later he decides to sell the coin since his interests change or he needs to sell to pay medical bills or for other reasons?

a collector who has studied a series and read the finest references available should have faith in his own ability to grade and understand his own pieces.
