Last week, I made arrangments to purchase a DOG from a well-known dealer, someone who has sold me multiple coins in the past, though not my usual source. The coin was to be shipped to me today. Late last week, the dealer (or his colleague) also put the coin on his website, unbeknownst to me (I still have not looked for it there). He emailed me today to inform me that three other people tried to buy it over the weekend. I knew that it was a good purchase for my collection, but I never expected it to be that popular.

Everything I purchase is like that. It's just no one has the courtesy to let me know how many other people had tried to buy it after me.

Take it at face value but I suspect you know that. My mentor called a style similar the "Grecian handshake" tactic and always used it to close a deal.

1: Make them think they won due to their shrewdness
2: Make them think they got it for bellow value and just in the nick of time.

People will often come back if you do it well.

But if it is like the rest of your coins you really did win

It is always nice to hear that others are/were interested in a coin you recently purchased. It's most definately a good sign. Just to relate. I certainly was happy to hear that other collectors thought highly of one my recent acquisitions including the OP of this thread.

Or buying a coin on the BST, then having the seller come back and offer more money than you paid for it - enough that I would consider the offer but that once coins check in they don't check out.
