As many here know, I'm currently producing "1909-o Micro-o" over-struck Morgan Dollars:
So I recently went out looking for more Morgan Dollars to use for the over-striking. A certain coin shop usually has trays of dollars to pick. I bought a few and the shop owner told me had a bag of about 600 pre-'21 Morgans, 200 1921 Morgans, and 200 Peace dollars. He asked if I wanted to pick them at $30 for pre-'21s and $29 for 1921 Morgan and Peace. Like the guy from the cheezy Keystone beer commercial, my answer: "always." (I've picked from that shop before with good results.
First, the Peace dollars. No significant VAMS, but a few better-date coins:
1927-D (most circulated 1927-D dollars are very beat-up, this one is fairly nice)
1928-S
1935
For 1921 Morgans, there were a few VAMS, plus some nice UNC:
1921-D, not a significant VAM, but a nice grade
1921 VAM-4 Double "n", coarse edge reeding
1921 VAM-27A coarse edge reeding #1
1921 VAM-27A coarse edge reeding #2
1921 VAM-27A coarse edge reeding #3
1921 VAM-3D
1921 VAM-1O
1921-D VAM-1AR
1921-D VAM-1B1
Some pre-21 Morgans that are not significant VAMS, but better coins
1878 Reverse of 1879
1881-S (toned)
1883
1885-O
1885-O
1886
1887
1887-S
1890
Now the pre-'21 VAMS (in no particular order, except the best ones at the end:
1879-S Reverse of 1878, VAM-39, Top-100
1880-O VAM-7, Hit-List-40
1883 VAM-13
1885 VAM-22 Hit-List-40, R-6
1887/1887-O VAM-2, Top-100
1888-O Oval-O VAM-17, Top-100
1891-S VAM-8A
1902-O VAM-51A LDS
1883-O/O VAM-4, Top-100
1884-O/O VAM-6, Top-100
1885/1885 VAM-6, nice toning
1900-O/CC VAM-9, Top-100, R-7, #1
1900-O/CC VAM-9, Top-100, R-7, #2
1882-O/S VAM-3, Top-100, RARE EDS (Early Die State)
1880 Knobbed 8 VAM-1A, Top-100, RARE High Grade (possible condition census)
1900-O VAM-22C1, R-6, "Privately Made"

<< <i>Holy hell you did well! Especially with the Knobbed 8 and the micro o! Congrats!!!
-Paul >>
Thanks.
Technically, the 1900-O VAM-22C1 is not a "micro-o". But it is a product of the same people that made the micro-o 1896, 1900, and 1902.
wow, that's sum nice vampickin'! congrats.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
<< <i>That's a great selection of coins for your "1909-o Micro-o" over-struck Morgan Dollars! >>
Good one
Of course, I didn't bother to show the "dreck" I bought to actually use for over-striking.
The 1902-O is actually a VAM-51A LDS.
What's the vam on the 79-S Rev 78?

<< <i>Your Knobbed-8 is at least AU58. Congrats!! >>
<< <i>And two O/CC VAM-9's. You scored there. I thought the Knobbed 8 looked cleaned. Hope not.
What's the vam on the 79-S Rev 78? >>
Thanks.
The 1880 knobbed-8 is definitely not cleaned. It appears to be MS-61.
The 1879-S rev of 1878 is a VAM-39.
