Failed attempt at humor

A local Craigslist seller has two cards for sale: a 1961 Mantle and a 1968 Ryan/Koosman RC. Both cards are in PSA holders (grades not listed) and are in “100% perfect condition”.

My email to seller:
I have over 10,000 Topps commons from 1988 through 1991 that I might be willing to trade. Maybe $15 plus 10,000 cards, for the Ryan RC and the Mantle?? I could also throw in a slightly scratched Van Halen CD.

Seller’s reply: “Never was a Van Halen fan and I can't really do anything with that many cards.”

You sound like a loser to me that tried a troll job and he did not take the bait.

I see no humor what so ever in your email.

Maybe you're right. I just assumed that his reply was serious, but maybe it wasn't.
  • Why the hell would someone post PSA graded cards for sale and not list what the grades are? Do you really think that you're not going to have to field that question from every serious inquiry?

P.S: I like Van Halen from the DLR era only. I neither like nor dislike Sammy Hagar era Van Halen. It's just kind of there.

  • The seller didn't post any photos. Just said that the cards had been graded by PSA, and were in "100% perfect condition". That would imply that both cards were PSA 10 (selling for $400 apiece).

I don't read that to mean that the cards are both PSA 10. When I first read that, I assumed all he meant was there is no damage to the slabs.

  • Maybe you're right. It's hard to tell if he's talking about the cards or the slabs. Here's his original post:

I have a 1961 Mickey mantle card and a 1968 J. Koosman and Nolan Ryan card.
They are both graded by PSA and are in sealed hard plastic cases with plastic wrapped around that!
They are 100% perfect condition. I will let them both go for 750 bucks which is a hell of a deal or you can buy them individually for 400 a piece OBO.
  • Well, if the way you read it is correct, the guy's right...... that's a hell of a deal!

I laughed out loud at your response to him. Not sure why no one else thinks it's funny. The "slightly scratched' detail is what makes it work.

  • My reply to you would have been-

On which song do the scratches affect playback?

Exactally how many over 10k are we talking?

For a short while I was leaving funny fb on ebay. I loved it when buyers/sellers played along.
