They may look as good...but the grades are not the same.
Some coins are worth TONS more in the next higher grade.
I guess I need to send in a few more for possible upgrades image

And Mike only lives 20 minutes from me. I'll let you know if he builds a mansion.image
I heard a rumor that Andy Hanson sold his set for over $3 million.

  • Congrats to Mr. Casper on assembling and now selling some of the worlds best! As for the very arrogant and jealous postings in this subject thread, shame, shame.

That is a little odd isn't it?

More than a bit odd if you look at the new person's profile.

Are you the buyer of the set Jupiter? I'm going to try to contact Mike and ask him who bought it. I'll try to get the entire story.

  • Is michael fishing again? Do we have an update on this? Many of us would love to know who the purchaser was. I had my eye on a couple also but found the asking was steeper than I wanted to pay.

I'm not getting any response from him.image Could he be lying to us?

  • lol.. more likely he has actually gone fishing. Many Many people do not live on a computer or answer an email within 24 hours. Some people (this is rumor only) have lives.

  • Michael Casper is an extraordinary guy, and a master of hucksterism. Perhaps the set was sold to a close relative or a partner in interest? Who knows ...

  • Please everyone, do not make any judgments as to the credibility of Mike's statement until we hear something straight from him. I can see no reason why he would lie about selling this set, and I don't think he's that kind of person. In many cases, the buyer of a certain item might prefer to remain anonymous.

From what I've been hearing the set really has been sold to an anonymous person.

Does this mean an end to the constant auctions on eBay with no reverse photos? image
  • littlewicherlittlewicher Posts: 1,822 ✭✭
No. He's still a dealer with lots of coins.

Just to clarify things..I did not start this thread to flame Mike or try and dispute the set was sold.
    I was just curious.
I know Mike, and have bought at least 35k of Morgans from his collection.I respect him as a business man for all he has done in life.

His wife is as nice as they come !

Mike is really gone! Must be the beautiful weather we have been experiencing in New York!

He normally responds to my emails quickly.

The facts will come out soon enough.

  • P.T. Barnum was right!! Not that Casper's coins are not nice--we all know they are. However, his "spin" is bigger than a Cuisinart!!image
  • The PCGS E-Collector article makes it official. Sold the set to a Texas antiquities collector.

  • Good evening. This is Cathi, Michael Casper's wife. He is presently at the Central States Show in Columbus, Ohio and asked me to make a few comments on his behalf. As regards the set, it did indeed sell to an individual in Texas who has specifically requested that we keep his identity anonymous. As for future endeavors . . . Michael had a pleasant chat today with Laura and George of Legend Numismatics, which culminated with his purchasing the Wayne Miller 1889-CC from them for $60,500. So far today, he spent close to $500,000 on the best Morgans he could find . . . and he's at the Silverman auction right now. Someone emailed me earlier today and told me of this thread . . . Michael hasn't even seen it as we have been out of town for the past week or so; however, when I read some of the posts to him over the phone, he asked that I give you all the facts. I must say that he has been quite humbled with regard to all the attention that he's received . . . and he asked me to assure you that he really hasn't any hidden agenda!

Morgan Silver Dollars . . . don't ya just love 'em!

    Best to all,

    Cathi Casper
