    Speculation on my part,

but I think it's canvas bag toning where the reverse was in contact with the bag....the streak is from a fold.

    JMHO.

This is the classic look, and the typical date of Morgan that was mounted in the wall mount / desk top framed type sets that were marketed by Littleton Coin Company. The coins were all mounted in a heavy card stock plate that typically had a faux woodgrain lamination on the face, and that piece was reinforced by another plain grey heavy card stock (cardboard) backing that imparted the funky toning patterns on reverse. I own several Morgans just like the OP's which I personally stripped from these framed sets.

  • Nah thats not canvas bag toning. Bag toning normally has what looks like a textile pattern almost like a pegboard appearance. The coin is nice. Its a 63/64 due to the weak reverse strike.

Not canvas bag tarnish... but NT..... would be difficult to produce the reverse effect. Cheers, RickO
