Weighted GPA and Set Rating calculation Question

On the Modern Type Proof Set 1950-pres

How are the Weighted GPA and Set Rating numbers accomplished? Is there a formula? Do they just add up the total coins? Are certain date coins worth more then others? Is there an easy way for me to figure out my own numbers if I were to add or subtract certain coins?

thanks

  • Each coin has a weight. You can find the weights by clicking on "View Set Composition" at the bottom of the summary page for any given set. On the 1950 - present proof type set, the weights are all 1, 2, and 3 (accented hair JFK). For each coin, you take the grade; adjust it for cameo, dcam, brown or RB, as appropriate (this is explained at the top of each set's summary). So, for example, a PR69DCAM is worth 71 points. The weight is NOT dependent on which coin of a set you have used.

For each coin, you multiply the adjusted value times the weight and then add them all up. finally, divide this total by the total weighting of the set (which, for the same set, is 48, if I counted right).

    Hope this helps.

  • Pete,
I actually understood it for the first time until you started in with new math! imageimage
