Does this bother you at all?

This is a coin currently being sold on Ebay with an ANACS 65/65 photo cert. The seller is holding the coin raw in his bare hands while taking a photo. Does this preclude you from buying it? Or are you old school and remember when collectors held thier coins without a piece of molded plastic surrounding it, albeit by the edge usually.

I'd pass more on the coin than on the way it's being held (but that doesn't help any)

lots of people use that technique due to inferior equipment and skills. They should learn to use a photo processing program and crop out their fingers/hands

No, I'm probably not buying any coin where the guy is holding it to take the picture.

I have received raw coins (not in a flip or 2x2) taped to a piece of cardboard, Some people have no clue about the handling of rare coins.

I my case a quick dip in acetone even tho I saw no tape residue because it was only taped for a couple of days.

Does this coin match the anacs photo certificate's pic? It would bother me that the person is holding it in their bare hands-yes. As full bands are readily available for this date/mint, I would pass. Otherwise a good dip before storage.

I've seen too many collectors and even a few dealers mishandle raw coins so it doesn't bother me anymore.

I see that on e-bay all the time. Once a female seller was holding a coin in her bare hands and her fingernails were dirty and there was flaking skin on her fingers. I probably shouldn't have but I sent a message telling her that her thumbnail looked worse than the coin.

Ive seen auctions of common junk coins with the seller wearing white cotton gloves while handling them.

    ludicrous also.

I'd have nothing to do with this coin, but horrible eye appeal makes holding the coin in his hand pretty much inconsequential.
    When in doubt, don't.

That looks like PVC residue from the original ANACS flip.

The ANACS photo certificate includes very high resolution pics of the obverse and reverse. The fine details of the coin (contact marks, toning patterns, specs of dirt, etc) should match the pics exactly when compared them under high magnification.

Looks like the seller knows coins from looking at their other listings, yet they do that with all their coins. What is the purpose of ever holding a coin that way? Just take the picture on a solid backgound. Makes one wonder what other ways they mishandle the coins since they don't seem to care.

Reminds me of seeing some dealers at shows who would look through BU rolls of silver dollars clanking, slamming and scraping them against each other almost as if it were a contest to see who could make the most noise.

So my answer is - - YES

It wasn't in a slab. The photo cert is supposed to be your assurance.

Correct. The coins were in a 2x2 flip that accompanied the photocert as it was the photo anf the text on the photo that validated the coin.
