Set Registry dilemna - opinions wanted PICS ADDED!!! Tell me what ya think!

Hello all. I recently purchased a high grade card for my Set Registry and wanted to post a question....If you buy a card, let's say, a PSA 7, and your current PSA 5 looks better than the '7', do you....
#1) Sell the 7 and try for a better one?
#2) Sell the 5 since the 7 improves your standing in the registry? (even though the 5 is a nicer looking card)

If you want the best Set, there is only one to keep.
If you want the nicest looking set possible, then you can keep the other.
It just depends on your personal collection ambitions.
Good luck on your decision.

<< <i>Keep them both for now, crack them both and sub them together. If the 5 is the better looking then it should grade better when compared to the other one. Who knows, maybe 8 & 6 on a re-sub? >>
Com'on Bobby.............You don't have a hair on your............if you don't give it a shot!!

<< <i>tough call. what year are we looking at? do the "7's" come around often? >>
1933 Goudey Sport Kings. So, no, I would say the 7's don't come around too often (not at a good price anyway)......
<< <i>Why not keep both and post pictures of both cards? >>
I am toying with the idea of keeping both, however, I usally offset the purchase price of the higher grade card by selling the lower grade castoff. As much as I love these things, I can't afford to keep EVERYTHING.....

thats the crappy part about the registry. i am really not a fan of the "upgrade", it really adds up $$$ wise

Which card would you rather have in your collection??
Also I am curious on why keep the 7 and if it is that crappy why not get a refund or do you think you can flip the flip for an easy profit if they ignore that fugly card?

First off, Cards of that Era are not deducted for Coloring/Tinting of the paper. I have Cards that are 8's and 9's from the 1930's that are almost brown from age tinting, so this automatically makes the viewer's mind find the EX 5 as more desireable. Secondly unless this is a blatant Mis-Grade, I would think there is something in that EX 5, or better said, on the 5, or a flaw, or??? that made it a 5. If you can find nothing, then I would re-sub it, but the scan here is not detailed enough for most of us to draw an airtight conclusion.

<< <i>Geesh, that 5 has far superior eye appeal to that 7. >>
This is the ONE thing that sucks about PSA's grading standards IMO. A virtually invisible surface issue can knock an otherwise-stellar card down to a 5, while lesser cards from an eye appeal standpoint can get a higher grade due to a sloid surface. BVG got that part right - ding the surface component a bit but don't auto-drop the card to a 5.

BTW - the 5 is nicer.
Really - there are 7's and up with the bleed thru? 33's aint my bag (yet)
Although rather Harsh, I think that it is the corners putting that in an EX 5 holder THAT TIME !, especially the upper left and lower right. Great card, I would crack and re-sub, don't know the value, but I can see that in a 6 holder any day.
