What the World Needs Is a Better Search Engine for Buying Coins

giorgio11giorgio11 Posts: 3,921 ✭✭✭✭✭
I do a lot of Google searches for customer want lists and the searches always result in a mixture of the occasional coin for sale, much more often with links to various auction archives, PCGS Registry Sets, worth(less)point, etc. etc. I have tried Bing, same results. Has anybody ever found a way to just come up with current coins for sale?

Thanks for any tips ... George

Try Collectors Corner here at PCGS's home page.

George, I understand your desire for a more compiled list of available coins. One reason for creating my "Master List of Dealers" thread was to do such this, but I still wish the process of finding the 'right' coin was more streamlined.

I have thought that if a website allowed dealers and collectors a like to advertise their coins on one website, with strict BIN prices with the advertised dealer next to the coin, price, and description it could make for a better/easier/less-time-consuming browsing and buying experience. But I also feel there are issues with this which makes it a more competitive numismatic market.

For one, if ALL the coins on everyone's dealer website/inventory were advertised on one site, many collectors would purchase the least expensive example and there would be more exposure to what certain coins are available that other collectors may not have noticed by not knowing about other dealer websites. This puts certain dealers at a disadvantage, but it would make numismatic purchases more competitive!

So, I see a good and less good outcome of this. It would be great for the consumer, but not necessarily as wonderful for those sellers who are 'market makers' and specialist dealers!

And of course Collectors Corner, as Rick pointed out is a great start for this, but there is still a limited engagement for many dealers to participate in advertising their coins there!

eBay gets a lot quicker response than CC when you hit the Buy It button. And yes even though many chide the site it has the most listings and is the easiest to navigate.
