Packers title defense

Everything is going right for the Pakers right now, they have a great team and should be the favorites to win another superbowl.
It got me to reflect on the 1986 season when thing were going the same way for the Bears, then this happened:
Text

The thing that set me off today was I was reading a book on the history of the NFC central, BLACK & BLUE by Bob Berghaus and on page 91 Packer GM Ron Wolf stated, "It was an awsome defense but it's one of those things that when you sit back and reflect upon things you say to yourself, 'Why didn't this team win more than one Super Bowl.'"

QBs are protected much more now than they were in 1986...while it's not impossible, I don't see a similar fate befalling Rodgers at least as the result of a cheap shot. Injuries are part of the game, but Aaron has done a great job at staying out of harm's way thus far. Pack will repeat unless something drastic (like Rodgers getting injured) happens.

  • honestly their passing d is quite bad and that will be their weakness this season

I am a biased Saints fan, admittedly. That being said, if we play Green Bay in the playoffs, I would give us at least a decent chance to upset them. While we are probably not as good as they are, we can pass the football and that is their weakness. On any given day...

To be fair, McMahon had already missed a bunch of games before the bodyslam, had played poorly in the games in which he did appear (like the awful pick he threw on the play where Martin slammed him), AND the Bears went undefeated after his injury. Fact is, they just weren't good enough that year.

The most important stat for Jim McMahon was his winning % in games started. !985 11-0, 1986 6-0
The Bears didn't need a 300 yard a game passer. McMahon did whatever it took to win the game and that's all that matters.
Watching Doug Flutie in the playoffs against Washington was painful.
BUT, it did provide one of the most memorable post game interviews that I can remember:

Wolf brings up a great point. Those Bears teams were talented enough to win more than one Super Bowl.

I found it ironic he would point that out, because the team that currently employs him is partly responsible for derailing the Bears title defense with one of the worst cheap shots in NFL history.
