Question about pricing large collections

Looking at a collection containing a ton of late 60's-early 70's baseball - semis and commons. What's a reasonable per-card bulk price for these, assuming quality ranges from VG-ExMt?

I know I'm being pretty vague, but I'm only at the beginning stages, deciding if I even want to go beyond the pictures phase and actually look at the cards.

  • I would say .25 to .35 each.

25-35 cents each? I don't know about that.
Especially if they are in VG to EXMNT condition.

How many monster boxes are we talking about here?

    $0.25 is much too much.

Unless there are high numbers or stars/rookies, there isn't a huge value in that condition. I would go on eBay, find lots from the years the guy has in the same condition, and break down the price per card to get an idea in your head what they sell for on the market.

In that grade, I'd say a better starting point would 10 cents a card, less if they are primarily 70s cards with few stars.

  • VG to EX-MT is a pretty wide range. You can't get any 60's commons for .10 that I know of. I will buy any 60's commons for .10 personally. EX-MT late 60's will run you .40 to .50 each on average. EX-MT early 70's commons will run you around .20 to .35 cents. VG early 70's around .10 to .15.

If you do get them for .10 each, I would most likely buy them from you for .15 each depending on the breakdown if you wanted to flip them.
  • In that condition, 10% of book value...max.

If anybody has same years and is willing to sell at 10% book, I'm buying. PM me.

If the lot is advertised as VG to EX-MT, the cards are probably going to be closer to VG than EX-MT. If stars or high numbers are included, that will increase value, too. Hard to say what value is without seeing what's up for sale.

And how many.............also, late 60's in this case probably means 68 and 69.

Suppose guy has 20,000 cards you ready to buy them all for a quarter each?

Just to clarify - I made up the grade range to be intentionally large, as the actual condition is pretty vague right now. It's the typical "Great shape" "excellent" description we all see all the time.

The size of the lot is right around 10K cards.
