Ebay seller outreach program (RANT)

ctf_error_coinsctf_error_coins Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭✭
My first ebay rant...

So they called me this morning for a 20 minute chat on how to help my business.

My gosh, by the time I was done with the "helper" I was really pissed off, just fuming.

They wouldn't help me with my selling "art" questions at all.

All he tried to do was talk me into offering effing FREE SHIPPING to get me to be a TOP RATED SELLER which I should be except for the idiots thatt ding me with a one star for my outrageous shipping charge of $2.95.

I went to the post office and asked where their FREE SHIPPING window is????

Ebay really pissed me off today by trying to help ...... GEEZ

Just wait... it'll eventually get worse. eBay is an expert at that sort of thing.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Ive put the phone down on them many times and told them i will not accept unsolicited phonecalls. Its never affected my status or discounts,i dont have the time to shoot the breeze with ebay, never will.

Ebay is getting very good at giving away other people's money, all the while charging even more money for them selves... Ebay

If you are selling enough (a lot....which I don't), then wouldn't offering free shipping, instead of $2.95, be worth it for the kickback ebay would give you (20%?)?
I have offered free shipping and i have charged for shipping...it depends on whether I am planning to make a big profit or not (ie....I buy something for $300 and flip it for $1000....I will offer free registered shipping)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

rule #1. unsolicited advice is worth what it costs.

I'd feel a lot better about Ebay calling me up and telling me how to be a successful seller...........
if I could only review the employees Ebay sellers account and analyzing their success pattern first.image
    Have a nice day

Most of the drones that work in "seller" outreach have never sold a thing on eBay. The average active eBay seller has forgotten more than these nitwits will ever know.

based on that quote, seems logical to me and I do enjoy that TRS discount - i offer free shipping on 99.9% of my sales

you should be so lucky to be part of a business that calls you personally to give you advice.

after speaking with half a dozen people @ the bay i've increased sales, decreased fees, made customers much happier and became much more customer oriented and professional

wish they would send an ebay expert to my home for a week, probably double my GMS

They make an appointment for an "expert" to help my business. I have been selling on ebay for 12 years and I know a little about selling on ebay.

Free shipping is a crock if you do lower priced items and / or 99 cent auctions. It may very well work for overpriced items.

My 99 cent auctions with 2.95 shipping do great for me and I will not be forced into the free shipping BS to become a TRS, (my feedback is 100%, 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.8) they can kiss my azz. 3500 transactions at 2.95 ea is over $10,000

what really pissed me off is that I thought they wanted to "help" me but instead the idiot knew nothing about business nor about selling or anything for that matter.

All he did was get me very pissed off at ebay.

I sure hope they send me a feedback email on this guy.

    Great seller outreach program image

At the end of a long day and I find myself STILL very Pissed Off at ebay.

I am one of the most hardened defenders of ebay and for them to tick me off with help is just amazing.

Sorry for the rant, I just still can't understand WHY a company would make an appointment and say they are calling you with help, but instead, just really, really piss you off.

I will still buy and sell because at the time its still the best coin venue, but the next time one of there drones calls me, well lets just say they will get an ear full.

Ebay should have never started the coercion into free shipping. Once more sellers started offering it then buyers expect free shipping from everyone. Very few online websites that sell products offer free shipping. One could sell a $1,000 item and only charge $5 shipping just to cover some of the cost and still is vulnerable to some idiot buyer that wants to hammer someone on the stars. I'm sorry, but free shipping shouldn't be the only thing that guards the shipping stars. If someone is reasonable within the value of the item (cost to pay insurance) then that should also be guarded.

I didn't even know or care about the 'top rated' thing, I just offered free/ship on my store items because I was tired of doing the tiny extra bit of spreadsheet typing. So I just added 5$ to my BIN's. Then bang! I notice my monthly fees dropped a lot. (about 20%). Sweetimage

When they called me months ago I never gave them time to give their pitch, I was busy ranting about fee hikes and the feedback system. Soon as I knew who I was talking to I googled 'problems with ebay' and just went down the list till they'd had enough and hung up. Felt frikken great image

They called me with the same approach. I asked them to take away the PowerSeller status, too. I want to be me , not one of theirs.

They kinda pss me off as well.

I've been charging $3.00 for shipping and the "eBay Shipping Fee's" (which they charge me), range from .23 to .33? It's almost as if they are raising the rates fir the fee's they charge you for the shipping (which ain't free folks) that you charge the listing winner.

I only offer "free" shipping where the price of the item will actually cover the cost of shipping. Other than that, it's a friggin loser which "almost" makes me want to have .99 BUY It Nows with $5.00 shipping and $25 handling. In other words, it makes me want to do exactly what they are trying to address.

WHY eBay continually harrasses their sellers with some of these ridiculous fee's is not really buying them any favors from the sellers. It actually makes the sellers "look" for other venues.

One of these days, I'll be totally off of eBay and when they call or solicit me as to why, I'm gonna tell them and I won;t hold back my disgust fir they way they are handling their company.

For those folks that want to compare eBay to other "auction" houses, just back off a bit since the "other auction" houses charge the buyers a fee and as a result, make money off the buyers AND the sellers. eBay is a seller's support market. Buyers pay NOTHING to use eBay.

No. The profit margins a extrtemely thin unless you can magically buy something for $10 and successfully sell it for $20. Even at that rate, the 12% fee's coupled with the listing fee's and PayPal fee's will wipe out what looks like a good sale.

Now, if you're selling stuff for hundreds, or thousands, maybe yes but for items that are less than $25, its a very close game which requires either hundreds of nickel profit sales or the ability, as stated, to sell your inventory at a 100% markup. Consistently.

So, when are you scheduling your "OccupyWallStreet" demonstration in front of the greedy Ebay headquarters?
