Baseballs already signed with sharpie pins, is there any way to protect them?

I ended up with a baseball signed by former A's and Giants pitcher Vida Blue in blue sharpie. The auto was a few years old when I got it, and it's obvious that the auto is starting to defuse into the ball. Is there any way to preserve this signature, or is it going to inevitably turn into an ambiguous blue stain?
