20806520 20001 1837 1C Feuchtwanger US MS63
IMO it should have been at least a MS64, but who am I to say
Its very well struck, better than any I have seen.
Trueviews should show up later today.
My image
Its a nice image but makes the high points on the obverse look like rub marks but they are the areas that are not toned
So, here it it............

Congrats on a VERY nice MS-63 Feuchtwanger
<< <i>Is this coin slightly clipped, or show evidence of a weak "clip" on the reverse at 11 o'clock?
Congrats on a VERY nice MS-63 Feuchtwanger >>
Yes, it does have a small clip, which I think ads character

Theyre not too familar with those things there, ya know...
I agree 64 would be better since it seems spotting that limits grades is not on your coin.
<< <i>....and I know it looks like a great coin but Ill bet you gave a huge sigh of relief that it didnt come back questionable color.

I myself knew it was natural but yes you are right I was holding my breath on whether or not they would AT it.
That's another reason I paid extra for Secure Plus.
But I still don't understand why 63?
Great strike
Nice toning
No planet flaws or staining that plagues these tokens.
Has luster, but deep because of the toning.

It is a clip, so it's really an error but maybe held back the number grade?
Maybe should have paid the extra to have it labeled an error
Btw, sorry about the typo.....planchet flaw, not planet

This one, the graders havent seen yet. JA said it was MS. Its the plate coin for the feuchtwanger currency in 100 greatest american medals and tokens, ex. Qdb. variety 4E I personally think it has claims to 'finest known'.
I wish I knew the reason for a lower grade......could the minor clip actualy
lower it by one point?
And the reverse is also well struck.
Ambro51............that plate coin is a MONSTER

The feathers are better struck than on the 64 you sold me
Sorry it wasn't as high as you hoped
<< <i>I love this specimen, I don't care what the graders graded it and why, if you think it is an ms64, then it is. The eye appeal alone is incredible. I won't try to grade it since I don't know the series but I am one who appreciates the toning, deep luster and this one's strike. I ti sperfect to me, and the clip adss even more character, as far as I am concerned where it might not make the finest known grade wise it sure seems like it good be a candidate for finest known eye appeal wise. Congrads once again, I am sure ambro51 is very jealous >>
Thanks Realone
I too feel this is the best eye appealing one I have seen. The strike and coin speaks for itself.
This one will be a keeper as I have never seen a toned one this nice yet

i don't see any breast feathers to fill out because the view of the eagle on the Feuchtwanger is a side view?

I do agree with you though, that from the detail I see, MS64 would certainly be justified.
Congrats!

<< <i>Very nice piece Coinsarefun! I really enjoy pieces like this and I have to say that is one of the only examples I have ever seen with that toning. I agree that it is natural and I personally don't think it matters if it is in a AU58 or a MS65 holder, someone will always want to acquire that coin from you wherever/whenever you show it off.

Congrats! >>
Thanks, if you ever see another toned one.....please let me know

<< <i>So youre saying that you feel the Secure Plus was a better option in the regard that you felt they would consider the toning and coin with 'more care'? >>
I will assume that question was directed to me, so I will answer.
I submitted under Secure Plus because I felt there may be an issue in regards to the toning.
I don't quite understand what your are getting at???......"more care"?
Please help me understand your question.

<< <i>I agree with Realone here. Who gives two chits what the holder says, thats a lights out coin. Congrats on finding it. >>
I agree with Moldnut, who agrees with Realone!
<< <i>Sreph,
in my collection I write notes on little rectangular stickers and place them on the rear of the coin. On yours I would confidently write, natural toning, original surfaces, great luster, fantastic eye appeal, most likely finest know for the die marrriage not necessarily highest graded...ms64+. Another reason I would give such a lofty grade is because lets not forget you are really comparing this specimen to what else is out there, it isn't alone in a vaccum. Since Ambro51 has been showing these cool coins off I have never seen a gorgeously toned highly struck and lusterous example as this one. So in my head this is the creme de la creme and should be given an ms64+ because what else is there to compare it to....a drab white or grey example....boring. >>
Thanks for the very nice comment

Beautiful image but I have to say your image is almost, if not just as, good as the Trueview Stef.
Can't wait for the roll out of the Stefview Service.

very nice CAF
with that making it into a shield, one would figure it would be 64 to 64+ with the wonderful eye appeal
a nice 63 nonetheless

The reason I bought this one and sold my higher grade CAC'd one is many fold.
Great strike, if you look at CoinFacts, the 64's imaged are of much weaker strike.
Absolute killer toning, never seen one with color like this.
The clip...ads character....again maybe that's why it was graded a point lower but I have never seen a clip on thease. Maybe they exist but I have yet to see.
No planchet problems such as lamination problems that plague this coin.
Overall fantastic eye appeal, again best I have seen.
Thanks again everyone for the great comments and will certainly be the highlight of my collection.

green looks good with german silver.
re. the clip, Ive not seen ano others with clips either. Im sure youll never see it in that pcgs holder, within the gasket.
These coins are far from my collecting path but interest me.
Are there many counterfeits?
If I buy one, should I only get a certified example?
Are the prices listed on eBay fair examples of the prices for these coins?
I like the clip too- the toning is awesome!

Check the sold list on eBay also.
Many of thease have varieties that add a rarity to the coin, and they are usually not
indicated on the slab.
Well struck, problem free, nice eye appeal ones go for strong money.
Check out Stacks and Heritage.
I haven't seen that many fakes out there but it doesn't mean there are not any out there
It may have something to do with the composition of the coin? Not sure

There are not many counterfeits and the ones that I've seen are very easy to spot (but that will undoubtedly change). Prices are all over the board. The prices on the ebay link look reasonable. If I had to make a gross generalization, I would generalize that vfs are about $100, xfs about $200, AUs are about $300 and Uncs are about $400+. But because this is a hard metal, strike is important and striking imperfections are common. As for ebay, and slabbing, the same rules apply as for all coins except that many feuchtwangers are not slabbed. I don't buy on ebay anymore but I confess I have found many better varieties on ebay over the years.
