Question for PCGS on the Upcoming Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Sets

claychaserclaychaser Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭✭
With the October 27 order date coming, I'm hoping our host will let us know what the First Strike and special label plans are. As I see, for the 5 coins:
1. UNC "W", First Strike deadline passed on 10/15
2. Proof "W", First Strike deadline passed on 8/3
3. Reverse Proof "P" - First Strke available?
4. Bullion coin - First Strike deadline passed 2/4
5. UNC "S", First Strike Available?

Will there be any special 25th Anniversary, or sealed box programs?

My YN with the good eyes (TrainNut) is hot to go on this one for fun and profit!

All coins in the set should be eligible for first strike if submitted in sealed mint box and ship date on the box (from the mint) is within 30 days. Your posted deadlines are for the earlier releases of three of the set coins. While there is no way of knowing if the set coins that were released earlier are actually freshly struck for the set (most likely not), I believe PCGS will treat them as such.

Bringing this one to the top. Understand the sealed box possibility, but I prefer to cherry pick the for reverse proof and S mint coin for first strike. Any info from the management?

Claychaser - your best bet, in lieu of the accountability of an answer from PCGS on this, would be for you to revisit the 2006 set and see. It isn't that different and I don't think PCGS will treat it differently.
Back then, the RP was the "new" kid on the block (well, the "W" was as well) and you could "cherrypick" these but once you opened that set, those were the only ones who could get 1st strike and were the only ones that could get the 20th annv set designation.

Why would that change on this? If there are existing examples that are already released, then there is no way of knowing, aside from the sealed set, where they came from and when, right? Therefore, aside from the unc "S" and the RP, I don't think the other 3 will, without being in the sealed set, be eligible for anything other than a normal label (non-FS, non-annv set).

And, yes, I would lay good money that PCGS will have a 25th annv set label on these.

I predicted, earlier this year, that this would happen.....that the TPGSs would make their own annv label and that, later in the year, the USMint would put out an annv set. Lo and behold...it is coming to pass image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

seems weird that they reopen the first strike for some of the coins, just because they are being issued in a different package???

<< <i>seems weird that they reopen the first strike for some of the coins, just because they are being issued in a different package??? >>

Not weird at all since if the coins are physically "included" with the shipment of the Anniversary set then they are a "part" of the Anniversary set and as such, treated like a new release.

I see absolutely no controvery here other than that which was brewing at the time the 20th Anniversary Sets were announced along with the PCGS Special labels.
The 2006 Proof SAE was released on 2/6/2006 and the 2006-W was being offered as an individual coin. Lots of folks were dissing the US Mint and saying that they would NOT order the anniversary set because it only amounted to fancy packaging since two of the coins were available individually with only the Rev Proof being unique to the set. Until, of course, the resale prices started rolling in. Then the sell out occured rather quickly.

As stated, these will more than likely be treated exactly the same as the 20th Anniversary Sets which folks had to submit for certification, First Strike™ and 20th Anniversary Labels in sealed US Mint boxes.

The whole concept of First Strike labels still seems weird to me, but if it helps keep other costs down, I'm more than happy to watch other people pay for it.

Will our host create a Special 25th Anniversary First Strike Label that we have never seen before? Maybe a one time Holographic type? image

When ordering via the internet from the mint, is it possible to order 5 sets and get them shipped in five different boxes? Would it be possible to order five thru the phone service and ask to have them shipped in seperate boxes? I do not ever remeber seeing an option to do it during a internet order, but it should be possible to do it on a phone order by paying the extra shipping?

to get 5 boxes, you must place 5 separate orders and pay 5 separate shipping fees.

    Link??

    from Mint...."Ordering Limits:
A limit of five (5) sets per household is in effect for the first week of this product’s release. At the end of this period, the United States Mint will re-evaluate this limit and either extend, adjust or remove it."

Goldbully, MsM was replying to the previous post. If you want 5 separate sealed boxes, you have to place 5 separate orders. But it might be chore to get 5 orders in on Thursday.

Unless I take a day off from work, I will not have the time to do 5 orders on the internet with the logjam that will occur, and I am assuming a possible sellout before I get home from work. If I can get thru on the phone, can i tell the person taking my order to ship the sets in seperate boxes? I know i will have to pay shipping on each one, I am just wondering if I can do it all in one phone call as getting thru once will probably take a fair amount of time. Thanks for any info

    Timber,
I spoke with a mint representative and supposedly you could place 5 separate orders (and pay 5 shipping fees) on a single phone call to the Mint on Thursday.
  • $ better than expected actually.

I don't know why, but there seems to be controversy every time a set with similar issues is offered.

Usually the initial statements are modified and the end result is consistency with past stances.

My personal opinion is if you are into First Strike, then do not open your packages before sending them in for grading.

    Time will tell.

Yeah, b ut I'm just too cheap and too compulsive not to look over the coins and just send in decent ones. The only way it makes financial sense is to get "70" coins, the rest should just stay raw.
