Red Sox collapse

Interesting article in the Boston Globe today....finally some names attached to the rumors (although we kind of knew all along who the culprits were)

Link

The most surprising thing was seeing Lester as a slacker, completely caught me off-guard. I thought he'd be one of those that cared more.

Opening Day should be interesting next year. If nothing else, I'm hoping the 2011 team brings back the feistiness in Red Sox fans, who had gotten way too complacent. There better be boos raining down on everyone but Pedroia, Ellsbury, Aceves, and Papelbon next year.

I blame Francona for allowing this team to get soft, he was a players coach and these guys took full advantage so shame on them. A bunch of overpaid crybabys, I love the Sox regardless but this team needs a kick in the ass, I think management is in the process of doing this as we speak.

What an excellent article!! Pretty much says it all. If you ain't on the rail or on the bench pulling for your team during games, you don't belong on the team. Sitting on your ass in the clubhouse popping a Sam Adams and playing video games tells you all you need to know about the character of the man.

I have to wonder why John Henry would pop for $300 headphones (for his multi-millionaire players) and a night on his yacht, thinking this would right the sinking ship.

Thanks for posting the link Jdip9. For those Theo lovers, pls note the authors comment.

In order to blame Francona, you have to assume that he saw what was going on, and didn't try to put a stop to it. I don't believe that to be the case. We know he called a team meeting, he called out the main culprit - and I'd be shocked if that were the only time he broached the subject with the team. It's not his fault they tuned him out. These are grown men we are talking about - if they aren't professional enough to clean up their act after getting called out, that's their fault, not the manager's.

This isn't football, where non-guaranteed contracts keep everyone in line. In baseball, players still get paid whether they are throwing no-hitters or throwing back beers in the clubhouse.

This is a BS smear campaign against Tito. Typical upper mangement Sox crap that they do to look good.
