My Favorite Golf Course Closed

Just found out Tuesday morning that my favorite golf course closed October 1st. I haven't been able, due to health, to play in about 7 years now but it still came as a shock. It is like the death of an old friend. I played my first round of golf there when I first took up the game. I shot my first sub-par round of golf there, a 2 under par round of 70. I had my only hole-in-one there on their 5th hole. The ball went in the hole on the fly, didn't even touch the green. There was a road scheduled to go through the course but when the state cancelled the road they bought the course anyway. They say it's going to be a nature reserve.

RIP Linwood Springs, Gastonia, NC.

the little 9 holer i played at decades ago is a county transit parking lot and part of a freeway interchange.

it was the best to just ride the bike over with a few clubs and hit at the range or play with my dad. nothing at all special about the course, just close to home, then.
