Joe Dimaggio Autographed Baseball w/ "HOF 55" Inscription - Questions & Value?

I have a Joe DiMaggio autographed baseball w/ a "HOF 55" inscription on it. I am not concerned with authenticity here; rather, I am looking to get a determination of value of this ball due to the inscription. I do not see many Joe D auto balls w/ inscriptions like "HOF 55" for sale. There are a few on Ebay now for around $1000 buy it now. However, few have sold in the last 90 days. I am curious to get advice from those in the know...
1. Is this ball worth more than a non-inscribed Joe D auto baseball (is it rare)? If so, what is the approximate current market value for a "HOF 55" inscribed Joe D auto ball (high end vs low end)?
2. Would this ball be worth getting graded (based on the limited pictures)?
3. Would you trade this specific ball for a PSA 8.5 1986-87 Fleer MJ Rookie (this is a deal on the table right now - who wins in this trade - short term vs long term predictions)?
Thank you for your opinions and support. You all have been a great help to me in the past. I am a simple collector, trying to make sense of this collecting universe...

Based on that information, I would say you should make that trade, as the last one of those sold for over $800. Auction

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
he's just not that popular....TRADE !!
Yankees fans care more about Munson , Maris, Murcer, etc..

side vent:
isn't it called the Hall of Fame ? Not the hall of stats ?
if chick hafey is in , and red schoendienst is in , then maris and munson should be be in....

To answer your questions;
1 It's worth more than an non-inscribed ball, I am not sure how much it's really worth. You have already determined it's uncommon.
2 With all of the forgeries out there, I would get it graded regardless of how sure you are of it's authenticity.
3 NO TRADE! Short term and perhaps even long term you might be money ahead by trading, but you can always pick up a Jordan Rookie can't you?
If you ever decide you want to re-acquire the ball......good luck. If you are going to sell the card for cash make the trade.
That is one BEAUTIFUL baseball. A sportscard is nice, but not beautiful.

Why can't he pick up a Dimaggio "HOF 55" signed ball in the future? They'll always be available to anyone with the money to buy one. There's at least two on ebay right now.
<< <i>I've been doing shows since 1981 and I've only met maybe 2-3 real Dimaggio collectors...

Interesting observation Rick.
Being a Brooklyn fan and later while at Columbia a Yankee fan - I have to say - I've never cared for the guy and have never desired any of his cards.
I'd make the trade - his sig is like Mantle - they're ubiquitous enough - so that everyone in the free world could own one IMO.
<< <i>I'm glad you made the trade because I don't think your ball is authentic. The J is too big and the curves around the straight vertical line are a dead giveaway. I had a DiMaggio ball with that exact same signature rejected by James Spence in 2004 when he was still working for PSA/DNA. >>
With the trade did you guarantee the autograph ?
Sounds to me like you just ripped someone off with a questionable ball. Hope the person doesn't come after you later on if the ball is proven fake. Ignorance doesn't make you innocent.

Have to agree ball is Global Authentics real. Yup. Who wins in the trade, you do unless you traded for a fake Jordan in a fake PSA slab. Would be fitting.
<< <i>No, I did not provide a return policy on the ball. He wanted it so bad, so I made the trade (he is a mad yankees fan). I assumed it was good because it had a sticker and cCOA from Global Authentics. He likes that company and said it met his threshold. I do not like the company, so I was ready to hand it over for less value....but the Jordan was hard to walk away from. Was the auto authentic or not? I was going to send it into PSA/DNA for a crossover when a good scpecial came about; however, I never had the chance to do so. May be he will find out from PSA/DNA or JSA in the future. Overall, he was satisfied with the trade and the level of risk, so I pulled the trigger. May be I got really lucky here? Thanks for the comments on the auto's authenticity and trade value. I will know what to look for in the future. Meatloaf. >>
So no question on whether you are concerned if it is real or not huh? Global Authentics, and you admit you don't like the company because you know their reputation.
My opinion was on an authentic ball. MANY balls were signed by clubhouse guys that could "write my name better than me".
Joe
<< <i>Wait, so at first you were not at all concerned about whether the ball is authentic or not, now you admit you have serious doubts when you mention the shady company behind the COA.

Very true statement about innocence and ignorance! Didn't work for the Nazis, right? My boy can always send it into PSA/DNA or JSA or someone for another opinion or even post pictures online to get a quick opinion. I am great friends with the guy I traded with. We are collectors, not resellers or forensic document examiners. If he has evidence of a lack authenticity, we can conduct a repatriation of our memorabilia at a later date, no big deal. Meatloaf
How many Jordan rookies are there on eBay right now?
The deal is done, just wanted to answer your question.
Joe
<< <i>Mlbfan2 the balls on eBay right now do not compare with the one pictured, at least what's visible, and the nicest one the guy is asking for $1,000.00.

Since Meatloaf was considering trading away the ball (and did), he apparently doesn't care about the "HOF 55" addition anyway.
I'm sure there are quite a few Jordans on ebay, but there are also about (25) 1952 Topps Mantles on ebay too. Should he not have traded the ball for a 1952 Mantle since they're apparently more available than Dimaggio "HOF 55" baseballs?
