200th Anniversary landing of the Salzburgers, Savannah, Ga. Does anyone know what this is?

A fellow collector brought this to me to see if I knew what it was. Being mostly oblivious to anything other than circulating U.S. Coins, I told him I'd ask some folks that probably knew. A google search ended with zilch and I think he said this wasn't in the Krauss catalog. The heft of it feels like silver. Didn't have any scales on me to weight it. It's about the diameter of a silver american eagle.

  • Im not sure what it is but a quick yahoo search tells me you should contact the Georgia Historical Society link In the Jan. 8th 1734 listing they have this posted.. Click the link then click on "View Sources from the GHS Collection"

"Vertical files: RELIGIOUS HISTORY--SALZBURGER; MONUMENTS AND MEMORIALS--MISC.

Artifacts: A-1361-242 Medal commemorating the 200th anniversary of the landing of the Salzburgers in Savannah in 1734."

Sounds like the medal you have hopefully they could check their artifact and see if its what you have.. Let us know what it turns out to be

the company Whitehead & Hoag mainly produced celluloid badges but later got into the medal business issuing some regional medal, reissue medals and even some corporate medals
