Did NGC get this Gold $20 wrong?

Bought this at the summer FUN in 2010.

Just realized today that I think I got myself a cherrypick.

Anyone else agree?

Yes, the label is wrong. It's a with Motto.

If you paid a No Motto price for it, then yes, you got a cherry pick! I'd have them fix the "mechanical error."

They probably got it right when they holdered it and the motto appeared later.

It is much rarer than it's No Motto cousin, but in terms of premiums I'm not sure how much of a difference it would be in this grade!

that's a great looking coin, but it's not better than 64 i don't think. if you paid no motto money for it, you scored nicely.

Bought it holdered as shown. Pretty cool since it was a random purchase as I walked by the dealers table. I just grabbed on out of the stack. He had at least a dozen 1908's. Now I'm wondering how many others were sitting there!

The Motto is a hard coin to get. I needed one a few months ago for a client... I remember calling about 20 major dealers and not having any luck.

Label is correct, coin is wrong.

Give you no motto money for it.

I like finding TPG errors like this as sometimes examples are submitted by a collector, handled by a dealer, and even have had a few spins through major auction houses and no one ever catches it.

The thing that strikes me as odd is how did it grade ms64?

But it's actually lost ground to gold since summer 2010. And if you hold it long enough, it's entirely possibly it will lose much of the premium it currently brings to a
no motto 1908 $20. This could happen at say $3,000 - $5,000 gold. As time goes on the cherry pick is slowly losing it's mojo. Why not turn that into several common
date MS63/64 $20's? When you first got that pick you might have been able to trade for 4 common $20's.

If you sent it in for a crossover and didn't mention the Motto/No Motto error, what are the chances
it would come back still labeled as a No Motto?

CAC will not sticker slabs with errors

I had a half labeled quarter that would have stickered but for the obvious error

It's tuff to get a saint stickered in this grade....probably on average 20-35%.

Or the other possibility could be the coin was submitted incorrectly and it slipped by

I paid No Motto price......This is a case where I bought the holder, not the coin.
