It is a cud, Die Break, and a nice one. Don't spend it.

Can you show me a photo of the reverse. The light on the coin could be tricking me. Or just explain the reverse, is the reverse weak where the obverse error is?

Not normally seen that big on lincolns. But why no blaksley effect?(sp).nice find.

Because it is a cud, not a clip. Clips will have the effect. Cuds show a weakness over the same area on the side opposite the cud. So, in this case, the weakness will be on the reverse.

Very cool cud. Definitely worth more than a cent and therefore a keeper.

It looks like a minor MAD or struck out of collar in addition to the cud...can you provide a reverse picture? A great find in change......don't spend it.

It's not a CUD imo PMD

Looks like a CUD to me.

The area around AMER is weak because the opposing area on the obv die was gone/the CUD area.

Are your sure this is the reverse? There is no weakness opposite the cud (major die break) which is to be expected (since the metal filling the "cud" weakens the transfer of the design on the opposite side of the coin).

It should be a lot weaker

It's absolutely a genuine cud error, and the photos are of both sides of the coin, just under different lighting/photo conditions. To me it is also a small MAD strike and also slightly out of collar.....don't spend it image

Ya , sure could be, the lighting is weird. Most CUDs I have seen tho have much more pronounced weakness.

the weakness on the reverse seems most pronounced at the edge of the rim.
  • ajaanajaan Posts: 17,418 ✭✭✭✭✭
I added a new image to the first post, same lighting conditions.

Then again ... I can't think of what else it could be. It certainly isn't glue or solder, so I have no doubt it's genuine. I just expected more evidence of metal filling into the broken die.
