Bought this one a few years ago off ebay.....looked good but in reality it IS a counterfeit. The main diagnostic turned out to be the incorrect 5 in the date. This one slants, while the original (real) coin, its upright. Returned it. Money Refunded.

Lets see some other counterfeits you learned the 'hard way" on

i would like to add one but i don't have a pic and i also didn't buy it but because i didn't have the money at the time

it was an 1894 morgan au+++

first sign should have been how nice it was, looked like one of the first few from the dies used

came back to the place it was (a coin shop) and it was still for sale

an expert in all of numismatics was there and i had worked with that person a couple times and thought it odd the person

had not purchased this wonderful 1894 that was fairly priced. i picked it out and asked why the person had not purchased this wonderful example

and after a few seconds of evaluation stated they thought it was an 1884 expertly modified second 8. the 9 was scary good too. this put the position of the date all wrong compared

to an authentic one. so not only would i have bought it if i had the funds available i recommended to an expert that they should consider it!!!

probably my number one or two most important lesson to date in numismatics. if i would have bought it i'm 100% confident the seller would have

refunded my money, that is if i didn't sell it to someone else that was a collector that would keep it for a long time.

I don't collect this series but don't the denticles on the reverse around 3 o'clock look funny?

Is that REALLY learning the hard way when you get to return the item and get your money back? image
