Ron Paul Coins and Camino Coin Company

Does anyone have any anecdotal information about Ron Paul and his coin collecting and selling activities?

He apparently co-owned a coin dealership, "Ron Paul Coins," for twelve years (1984-1996) with Burt Blumert, who continued to operate it after Paul resumed office. He also apparently spoke multiple times at the American Numismatic Association's 1988 convention."

During a later interview Ron Paul made a reference to "Camino Coin Company." Perhaps "Ron Paul Coins" and "Camino Coin Company" were one and the same from 1984 through 1996? Or where they separate? Did "Ron Paul Coins" actually exist, or was it in name only? It looks like Blumert ran Camino Coin Company from 1959 through 2008 and then gave the dealership to a long-time employee at that time. Blumert apparently passed away in 2009.

So, does anyone have any anecdotal dealings or information about Ron Paul with regard to his coin collecting activities?

Just curious...

  • That is interesting , when i seen the thread title i wondered if it was another issue for this campaign.I bought more than a few rolls of the $20 Liberty 1 oz silver rounds bearing Ron Paul for 2008 , never regretted that. If he gets in office this time (yeah yeah..i know) i might just get that beach house yet : )

I understand disagreeing with his political philosophy, but why would you "thumbs down" Ron Paul.
He is probably the most consistent, honest, straight forward candidate out there.
I wish more of them were willing to say things he is willing to say.

Some of the sneakier candidates do and have hijacked some of Ron Pauls ideas but none have the guts to own them all.
Ron Paul will always get the image in my house.

Sorry everyone, I was hoping this thread would not become politicized (although I knew that could happen just when Ron Paul is mentioned).

I'm just curious what kind of coins Ron Paul may have collected (if any) or if he was simply interested in bullion and the cost/price of precious metals.

I wonder if I wrote him asking this question if he would reply?
  • One of his catchphrases is "Only Gold is Money" so that might be a bit of a clue. I could see him collecting early US gold.

He sponsored the bill that requires the US Mint to produce gold and silver bullion to meet public demand.

  • Let me take a guess at this , is it connected with a certain flag that you feel that way ? Various people adopted the Culpepper flag as a personal statement , i may be wrong but i don't think ive ever seen its use endorsed or encouraged by Ron Paul himself , followers yes , but i think it's more in the way the peace symboll was used in the 60's , along those lines anyway.
I know one member here has thoughts on its use , apologies if im mistaken and if so..do explain please.

I may very well ask him... and I bet he would reply in time.

Anecdotally, he won the Values Voter Summit straw poll tonight. image

Although unlikely, if Ron Paul becomes President gold will go to $25,000.

My best guess is that if Ron Paul ever gets to be president, gold will have long since passed $25,000.

  • Yes, there was a Ron Paul’s Coin; it lasted about 12 years. Ron Paul was also a financial backer or silent partner with Burt Blumert of El Camino Coins. Burt had at least one other partner, the one that helped start up his store - Col. J. Cobb. My understanding is Dr. Paul would bankroll/back some of the larger gold bullion deals. All three are of unassailable integrity and character and have helped literally tens of thousands in their careers.

Where was Ron Paul Coin physically located? In Texas or California?

I believe that Burt Blumert's coin shop(s) were in the San Francisco bay area?
